But, as I said, my purchases have lightened my wallet a little; so I am looking for a good deal as well as a good safe. So if anyone knows of any places locally (most are too heavy to ship cheaply) that have gun safes (or safes in general) at decent prices, I would be grateful.

i was going to say Academy or Bass Pro, but i'm certain that i saw a safe on sale in the last few weeks just can't remember where...sorry. but wouldn't be awesome to have one like John Matrix (Schwarzenegger) in COMMANDO? was the show at the Live Oak Civic Center?

I wouldn't have a clue to whether overstock.com has a 'gun safe', but their shipping is something like $2.99 for everything no matter what size or weight. I've seen some crazy stuff on there....might be worth checking. Heck, you might find something the rest of your family need!

The cheaper of the two on Craigslist is no longer listed; I never heard back from the seller so I guess they sold it. The second one for $300 is still listed; but as I said the owner isn't dropping the price much. Plus, it is only a pistol safe and I would prefer to be able to store my rifles and shotguns.

I guess I'll have to go hit Bass Pro and Dick's Sporting Goods, as well as Academy this week.

Cheers! M2

Great tip! They don't have anything larger than handgun-sized tho.

I'm glad you checked that out GWR! Wonders never cease. I know their stock does vary so I go back often to check out the variety of items.
