I've tried Google search but the websites don't tell me much about pricing or whether you have to get a membership or if you can go anytime without one.
Personal experiences would be great. Thanks a lot in advance!

Cedar Ridge in Bulverde is very reasonable.

The Bullethole off of 90 West (take Grosenbacher past 1604, their address is 2715 Grosenbacher Rd.) is a good place to shoot. They've got pistol ranges of 7-15-25 yards. It's only something like $7 to shoot, but you have to pay an extra $2 or so the first time to get a card. It is one of the most reasonable places to shoot, we go there all the time. It's open 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

If you are a first time handgun owner and would like someone to go out with you to show you how to safely handle the weapon, DM me and maybe we can set up a time to meet out there. I am a strong advocate of firearm safety, and have had lots of safety training in the military!

So, what'd ya buy?

Cheers! M2

Just an addendum, I do not think the San Antonio Rifle and Pistol Club shoots at Camp Bullis anymore since the increased security level at military bases has restricted the ability of non-military personnel to get on said locations.

Additionally, there is an indoor range on Bandera Road called Texas Thunder; it is the only indoor range that I know of but is very expensive.

A probably more accurate list of ranges can be had from the online Yellow Pages, that site gave the following locations:

Quote:
A Place To Shoot - 13250 Pleasanton Rd, San Antonio, TX 78221, (210) 628-1888

Blackhawk Shooting Range - 12135 Jarratt, San Antonio, TX 78201, (210) 622-5405

Bracken Rifle & Pistol Range - 19280 Marbach Ln, San Antonio, TX 78266, (210) 651-9009

Bullet Hole Shooting Range - 2715 Grosenbacher Rd, San Antonio, TX 7824, (210) 679-6781

Gun Training San Antonio - 8181 Tezel Rd, San Antonio, TX 78250, (210) 842-1639

R & R Trap Sales and Service - 8611 Geronimo Dr. San Antonio, TX 78254, (210) 688-3165

San Antonio Gun Club - 928 Contour Dr, San Antonio, TX 78212, (210) 828-9860

Texas Thunder Range - 7128 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238, (210) 509-2273

Blackhawk Shooting Range - 12135 Jarratt Rd, Atascosa, TX 78002, (210) 622-5405

Bexar Community Shooting Range - 15391 Bexar Bowling, Marion, TX 78124, (830) 914-2182

Cedar Ridge Range - 7110 Fm 1863, Bulverde, TX 78163, (830) 980-4424

Dietz Gun Shop & Range - 421 Range Rd, New Braunfels, TX 78132, (830) 885-4662

Bandera Gun Club - 809 Fm 1077, Bandera, TX 78003, (830) 796-4610

Clements J M - 809 Fm 1077, Bandera, TX 78003, (830) 796-4610

Hill Country Shooting Sports Center - 1886 Cypress Creek Rd. Kerrville, TX 78028, (830) 995-5118

Sharpshooter - 900 County Road 243. Floresville, TX 78114, (830) 779-3106
I've shot at the Bullethole, Blackhawk and Bracken; and as I said my recommendation would be the Bullethole for simple range shooting. It is inexpensive and an easy place to shoot.

Also, there are two organizations that hold practical shooting matches in our area, River City Shooters down at Blackhawk and Texas Tactical up at Cedar Ridge. I've shot with River Shooters and quite enjoyed it, and I have heard similar reports from friends who have done the same with Texas Tactical. Whereas these are competitive matches, they are also a great way to practice shooting in a more realistic environment than standing at a table and punching holes in paper targets. Once you are more comfortable with your new weapon, I would highly recommend participating in one of these events as it will give you a better idea of how to use it in a more realistic environment. Plus, they are simply a lot more fun than just shooting at the range! The people that ran these events are very welcoming to first-timers and people new to shooting, about the only thing they are strict about is range safety (as it should be) but beyond that everyone is willing to help new shooters.

I think we've talk about this before, but maybe it is time for a CD-SA day at the range?

Cheers! M2
