How is boycotting the town really going to make a difference? They could probably care less that one less person is driving through their town. You must of ran the red light or you wouldn't have gotten a ticket. I'm sure their making a lot of money off it but it can't be all that bad. We all know running a red light is dangerous. If giving a ticket is going to help someone so they don't run a red light again then it is a good thing they have it.

It's true, txmusicgal, but when a municipality shortens yellow lights, someone will run a red light that otherwise wouldn't have if the yellow light were appropriate. Essentially, what red light cameras do is ENCOURAGE red-light running in the first milliseconds of a red light....ironic, isn't it?

It's just a revenue scam, pure and simple.

I trust a computer more than the judgment of a cop.
Like the one that pulled me over in Missouri 5 years ago and after checking my DL and insurance he told me: "I'm sorry, I pulled you over because I ran your plates and I made a mistake on one of the numbers"
I would believe him, except that we were driving in opposite directions doing 35MPH. Either he was lying and pulled me over because of the way my car or I look like or he's amazingly fast running plates in his computer.

Many cops are just plain pathetic liars. SAPD motorcycle cop pulled over someone I know at San Pedro & 410, claimed they were driving 81 mph when they were driving 68 mph with another person I know following them at the same speed. What a liar.

These piece of trash mendacious cops give all the good ones a bad name...if there are any good ones in SAPD.

if this is in texas, your friend is a liar. the red light cameras are CIVIL offenses. thats how they get away with it. no pts (like we have them in texas) off your DL, no warrants, nothing.

the most they can do is put a 75$ ding (like they did with me briefly) on your credit, but a call to the credit agency they reported it too with a citation of legal precedents striking down red light cameras got it off my credit.

the speed limit around that area is either 60 or 65. your friend was caught breaking the law. whats the problem here, aside from the exaggerated speed?

So, if you get a red light camera ticket and go to court, couldn't you argue in court that yes, that is your car in the photo but it wasn't you driving. Who was it? Take the 5th. They should have to prove who was driving in order for the ticket to stick.

Very true. The constitution allows us to face our accusers....how can we face a camera that's accusing us? This is why the infractions are civil violations, that's how the punks get away with it. Absolutely pathetic. Also why I avoid those places at all costs. Sucks for them that they never get my business, as well as the business of many other individuals willing to spend money for goods and services.

Are you serious or are you joking? A cop is accusing someone driving 81 mph when they were NOT driving 81 mph. Do you not see anything wrong with that? Horribly wrong?

Red light cameras fall under the same legal philosophy as parking tickets-- the owner of the vehicle is responsible for it. It's up to them to pay it or swear out an affidavit that they were not driving the car and to name the person who was.

Yes, many jurisdictions have been caught shortening their yellow in conjunction with red light cameras, and that is wrong. But do you have any evidence of this happening in Balcones Heights?
