Young AA Female planning a move from Indiana
Hello All,
I am a young (23 year old), African - American female looking to relocate to Texas in August, maybe sooner. I had my mind set on Houston, but I have family in San Antonio and, as of late, have been persuaded to consider San Antonio as well. I recently graduated from college in December and now still residing in Bloomington, IN. ( I graduated from Indiana University) It is now time for me to move on with my life and I know that I want to be in Texas. I had done tons of research on Houston, but I must now start over with San Antonio, since it has recently become an option as well. Can someone please advise as to where people my age live, what are some nice apartments (1 bedroom - less than $700/mo), safe, nice neighborhoods, etc. My family there seems to love it, but they are all married and/or with children. How does someone my age and race seem to like it there? Not that race is a big issue (or an issue at all) but I am just curious. I would appreciate any and all advice you guys can offer.
Thanks in advance!!

Hi bigcitygirl,
Gen from Chicago here.
While I agree with you that "race" is not an issue it is true that "culture" and affiliation are important considerations.
My move will be later this summer, after graduation and NCLEX testing for nursing licensure (my school has a quarter system).
I will be 41 years old and look typical Euro white and am mixed cultured 50/50 between both of my 50/50 mixed parents too! I grew up in a multicultural area so I posted several questions to the forum here.
They made me realize that San Antonio is pretty broad minded and multicultural also.
Good luck to both of us! Congratulations on your graduation too!
Gen

I would consider Medical Center. There's a lot of nice apartments that are affordable and plenty of places to have a drink and some fun.

Kind of a broad question. Are you taking a job here or simply moving here and then looking for a job?

I am currently job searching there. But I was just curious as to if there would be anything for me to do there, where to go to have fun with people my age, and what areas are nicest/safest...
