I'm thinking about buying a house in/near Monte Vista and sending my kids to St. Pius (in the Alamo Heights/Northwoods area). Is this crazy? Would the morning traffic between those two places be awful? Thanks for any advice.

Mulberry is always a problem trying to turn left on Broadway.

Hildebrand in the Incarnate Word High School area is hamstrung with the SAPD giving cover to the departing cars and later trying to turn left on Brodway is always a mess. Think 20-25 minutes.

You might do better if you take Hwy 281 to E. Basse, then Nacogdoches to Rockhill. Rockhill intersects Robin Rest behind St. Pius.

Hildebrand (around both Incarnate Word HS & UIW) can be bad during peak hours.

But I've never had a problem turning left onto Broadway from Mulberry, even during busy times.

You really won't have a problem with traffic, though, as you can take Devine underneath 281 (through the Olmos Basin park), or Olmos across the damn and through AH, or Basse through the Quarry, or 281 to Jones-Maltsberger to Sunset. Lots of different routes.

I'd say it's about 15 minutes in "good traffic", and 25 in "bad".

By the way, MV rules.

Why not St. Anthony Elementary School (between Mulberry & Huisache)? It's right there in Monte Vista. We have sent our daughter there for 2 years and have been very pleased.

The commute will be a piece of cake. If anything the cost of buying a home in Monte Vista would worry me more. Homes in MOnte Vista are extremely expensive! They even have some half a million dollar homes there!

I agree the commute will be relatively easy. DVLPR laid out a lot of useful alternate routes to consider. I have never had trouble turning left onto Broadway from Mulberry.

For the record, MV has several homes over 1 million. Kings Highway has a few.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. We also plan to check out St. Anthony's as we've heard good things about it.

St. Anthony's or Keystone would = 0 commute and both have solid reputations. Keystone is significantly more expensive though. Tuition to Alamo Heights' schools is also an option to consider.

Why not just buy a house in AH or Northwoods within the Alamo Hts ISD? Save yourself the trouble. Unless you really like the houses in Monte Vista(which is mostly, or all, within SAISD).
