Default Commuting from Austin to San Antonio?

Do people do this? I'm sure people do, but I guess I'm wondering if the commute would be really long and more of a pain than anything else.

I love Austin and the communities that surround it. I know nothing about San Antonio at all, but that is where the job offer is. I've got friends in Round Rock, I like the community there...and I'm scared to death to pick the wrong area of San Antonio to live in! There are so many opinions out there!!!

so would it be silly to live in Austin and drive to San Antonio for work every day?

any thoughts?

thanks!!!

It'll be a major pain if you're going during rush hours...don't do it.

Suck it up and live in San Antonio, or find a job in Austin.

Silly. I drove to a job interview once in Austin and it was the biggest pain in the butt. Had i landed the job I would have commuted for a week or two tops until I could find somewhere closer.

Research San Antonio a bit through http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-a...index-san.html and you'll find some pretty funky and eclectic neighborhoods that will suite your Austin type personality.

It can be done. I did it for 2 years. There are also van pools that leave straight out of San Antonio to Austin or the opposite Austin to San Antonio. Luckily, the company I work for then opened a office in San Antonio, and I only commute to Austin once a week for meetings.

I used to do it for 2 years (when IH35 was under construction).
But even today it is a major pain in the ... back. Also car wear and tear, and gas usage. In rush hours traffic is bad and very unpredictable. I could strongly consider it.
Check the threads about living in San Antonio. I am sure you will find a nice place and love
it

If you live in Round Rock, then that is even worse as you have to go through Austin too! I knew a co-worker who lived with his girlfriend just south of Austin and he didn't like it at all commuting to SA every day. If the job is worth it, then move...if not, then stay. Look at all the plus and minus of the job (commuting would definitely be a minus along with gas costs).

Besides the headaches of traffic, possible accidents, and bad weather. Another reason that you might consider San Antonio-the cost of living is lower.

Omgosh...you'd be so exhausted from the commute that all that fun waiting for you in Austin would be wasted!

On the plus side, Austin is close enough that you could commute there on weekends for your days off!
