Default Yaay!! San Antonio, here we come!!

Well, for a Christmas vacation that is.... I'm looking forward to getting out of the cold for a bit, that's for sure. We are going to check out some new construction homes in Boerne and in Helotes. I think we have everything pretty much planned, but are there any points of interest that we MUST go to? We are going to Sea World, the Zoo, Riverwalk, Alamo, etc....

What shopping malls should we check out? I know that there are several restaurants out in town, but are there specific ones that you would recommend? We like it all, seafood, steak, etc...

Thanks!

Shopping: La Cantera and The RIM in the 1604/10 area. North Star on the North side at 410/San Pedro Ave.

As for restaurants, how much are you looking to spend?

Welcome to Texas...

While in Boerne or Helotes there is a Mexican restaurant called El Chapparel...in Boerne it's right on Main Street, you can't miss it --- it's very good food --- I have heard several on the board say they prefer the Helotes location, but I have only ever eaten at the Boerne location --- very very good beef fajitas, homemade tortillas, refried beans have a great flavor --- yum, now i'm hungry...

On the way out to Boerne there is a little area just before you enter Boerne called Leon Springs --- there is a BBQ place just off the highway called Rudy BBQ --- great food --- the cream corn is excellent --- also, a pizza place called Fralo's is just before Rudy's on the left ... also very good ...

Helotes and Boerne are both great areas/locations --- i am partail to Boerne, but only because I live out this way ... Love the low traffic going into Boerne from my area and the big yet small town feel of Boerne ... Boerne market days 1x a month, Farmer's Market every Saturday in Leon Springs, etc... i love everything about this area ...

Enjoy your visit!!!

Thanks! I should have also mentioned that we will have our two boys ages 6 and 11 with us. I would say no more than $60 for dinner and it doesn't have to be completely kid friendly. They like eating out and are surprisingly well behaved!

PERFECT!! Thank you so much for all of the great information, I can't wait to be there! We are moving June/July 2010, so scoping out the city beforehand is the main reason we will be there. Again, thank you!

You're coming to visit at a lovely time. As a native of central Illinois, I can assure you there is nothing like a San Antonio Christmas! Balmy weather, George Strait singing Christmas carols with that Texas swing, Riverwalk all lit up... It's gorgeous. I like Christmas SO MUCH more down here than I did at home!

I saw you were looking at the Christmas in SA thread - you'll get some wonderful ideas there.

Does anyone know if the new Museum section of the Riverwalk will be lit like the original section?

I'd also suggest el mercado/market square for some good Tex Mex food and ambience.
