Great! A highway halfway between 410 and 1604 is much needed.

well you know not planning a full interchange at 281 has worked so well in the past.

I've been watching the construction equipment amassing at the corner of Blanco and Vista Del Norte, and they've been working near the intersection for the past few days (cutting off the right lane during the day), wondering if that was related. Looks like it's going to be interesting for us getting through that bottleneck for the next...year....or two....

I imagine that can't announce a full interchange at 281 until the next study (which will be the 3,4,5? I lost count) is complete for north of there. Hopefully they can start soon and it won't take too long. Wishful thinking though.

Works about as good as the I-35 & Wurzbach Parkway interchange

When ARMA was looking at the road as a possible toll project, several concepts for a "lightweight" (my term) interchange at 281 were evaluated, but none was ever settled upon. (They used to have the diagrams on their website, but they disappeared during their recent website upgrade.) Given the relatively low traffic volumes that WP carries (relative to an expressway) and since it's really more of a super-arterial than a full-blown expressway, and since funding is always a challenge, they opted to just use the money they did have available to get the road completed for now. An interchange at 281 is especially problematic (read: expensive) because it would have to be built almost entirely above Salado Creek, but I'm sure it will be revisited again someday.

Saw an article in the North Central News today with a timetable for completion on the various segments of the construction:

Wetmore to Jones-Maltsberger section started in November 2010 and will be completed "late 2013/early 2014."

West Ave. to Jones-Maltsberger will begin this summer and be completed in 2014.

Blanco to West Ave. section started in January and will be completed "late 2012/early 2013."

Default Wurzbach Parkway & Blanco Road!

I didn't even realize it, but I haven't driven by this junction in months, if not years. No joke. So imagine how surprised I was when I drove by and they were installing pilings on either side! It was as though they were building an elevated parkway! Wurzbach Parkway!

Have you guys seen this? What did you think? What's the long-term plan? Are they going to connect it to East of 281?

I drive by it several times a week. I'm a little concerned about how it will affect traffic at the intersection you mentioned, but I look forward to the new route to 281 and eventually, I-35.

It will be connected all the way to the O'Connor Parkway interchange on I-35. See details above.
