Hello, My name is SHelly I am seeking out the help of the local professionals...the folks who know the area of Fort Sam Huston Texas like the back of thier hands.

I am a DOD Firefighter looking for a place to purchase a home for my Parents, then one day, when I can transfer to the base out there I shall hopefully live near by. Doing it this way will save me the trouble of searching for a home right now for five people...tal about a budget stretch...it would snapp!

As for my folks, they are wonderful people and I want to take care of them. My Father is a 27 year venteran retired SMSgt Air Force, and my mother is a sweet little lady...(his bride of 38 years) so I want them to take advantage of having a base close by for their medical needs.

However....these are my parents, flesh and blood...they are also elderly and I worry very much for them. So I want them to live in a place that anyone would want thier loved ones to live in...a Nice, Clean, Quiet, Safe and Peaceful place that has warm temperatures for Arthritis...and a but slower paced living...no party animals here.

SO my question to throw out there is about areas that I may find resonable priced houses and the areas that are as I described above. I am on a stricted budget mind you, as I don't even own a home for myself yet...I want to take care of them first...So I have to keep it at or around 150,000, 160,000 max.

Can any one sugest places that I can start a search for homes? I look forward to any insite ya all may have. Thank you for the time. Shelly

Since Schools are not likely to be an issue, I would look at houses in the eastern edge of Terrell Hills outside the Alamo Heights School District, or just north of that in Terrell Heights again outside the Alamo Heights School District. You might be able to find a small less than 1500 square foot home in your price parameters but it will be tough, and will likely need some work.

If that does not work out look for house just North of Fort Sam, across Rittiman from the Base Housing, prices should be a little better there.

I might also suggest expanding your search just a *tad* - New Braunfels not only offers homes in that range (easily), but is a small town that has lots of senior activiities and a wonderful sense of community. It has one decent hospital, with another major one to be built within 3 years that was recently announced. They also have tax "freezes" for those 65 and over, which means that if the house is in *their* name, the taxes will not increase as long as they reside in the home.
Yeah - we live in NB, and love it here!

What about Harry Wurzbach close to 410? In back of St. Pius X church is a nice area.

Also look at Wilshire Village area right above Terrell Hills. With the way Austin Highway is expanding you will not only get a great deal but the house will appreciate in value pretty well.
