Ok, I stated Im white and not a racist right off the bat because I knew I was gonna get flooded with comments and not freakin answers. Rather than me say, Hey everybody, how will San Antonio treat a white girl?" And get questions like, what does it matter? you a racist? I simply answered questions I knew that would be asked, ahead of time.
Anyways, My user name is Freakin Carmela !! Im half hispanic, Im just white as sh*t !!
Im not worried about me being a racist because Im not, Im worried about moving somewhere where other people dont like white girls. So thank you LOVESAT, SSHURGOT for answering me, and you two are probably right, maybe I should visit first.

This topic has been talked about a lot. And yes, it is a touchy subject. No matter how you approach it it is not politically correct.

Honestly, the best way to see if you are "comfortable" here is to visit yourself. No one person is going to be able to tell you if you are going to be comfortable in a new city or in a specific part of the city.

carmela432: its hard to convey meaning in type instead of face to face conversation. if i misunderstood you then i am sorry. its very hard to get a solid answer to "what part of town is best for me" questions because inevitably it devolves into who has prettier fire hydrants and whos driveways are off center.

i moved here from houston and found it very peaceful and tolerant, but thats comparatively speaking. i also love my side of town and neighborhood, but again it might not work for you. come visit us and use these forums to find places to visit and events to try. id like to think we welcome all here once we know you.

My skin won't even tan, even in Texas sunshine. I just moved from the NW of town to a neighborhood close to downtown. Here are some numbers from the City of SA Planning and Development Services: in my new neighborhood, the population is "75% Hispanic or Latino", "17% Black or African American", "7% White" and "1% Other." I've been treated very well both in my old neighborhood (middle class, subdivision with houses in the $120,000's) and in my new one (great diversity in income - I won't even begin to guess - and homes from $15,000 to $200,000).

All that to say, really San Antonio is wonderful and I've always felt comfortable here. People are very nice, the food is great, cost of living is wonderful, and aside from summer heat the weather is fantastic.

No matter where you decide to go, do visit first and check out different areas of town.

Also being a white woman I feel I can speak to this, but it's such an odd question. "White woman" is such a broad category that I'm having a hard time. I've never been to a city that didn't treat white women as a whole well. Personally I've been reasonably comfortable here. In general I feel safe and have everything I need. If you want to get nitpicky there's good and bad things about San Antonio, but that's true of any city.

Hmm... not sure if this helps..I'm a white chick too...a transplant...I visited here (Texas) first and decided for sure this was a place I could live and moved.

San Antonio is diverse and there seems to be something here for everyone.

However, I'm still looking for more Hungarian things for my g/f to do...

and still looking for Irish peeps with an accent But hey...

There are nice and not so nice peeps no matter where you go. Overall San Antonio is not so bad.

If you want more specifics...just ask.
