This may be a real ignorant question. I just thought that it could be because of all of the oil wells. I pay $3.15/gal for the lowest grade. How much is it there?

I can answer that and I don't live there yet. Yes it is cheaper. Someone will come on later and let you know how much.

You are cheaper than we are in Ca. We are $3.65

Texas is cheap compared to the rest of the nation.

In San Antonio the average gas price is $2.70.

Geeze...I haven't seen under $3.00/gal in a long time. Seeing $2.70 just looks so out of kilter. I couldn't imagine seeing that on a station sign around here.

What about homeowner's insurance. I pay $600/yr, here, but my house is really small. Do you know if hazardous insurance in required in Hill Country?

I know the property taxes will be going down in your state, in the future. I pay $2400 per year for a $650,000 house (1187 sq'). I thought I read somewhere that it should go down to about 1% or 1.5% in Texas.

I moved here from San Diego! I just payed 2.78 at chevron this morning. When I moved out here 7 years ago it was .99 a gal when it was 1.80 in SD. We are all in a different dynamic now though. Yeah, it's sad when we start to think 2.78 is cheap!! lol

I've been to San Diego quite a few times. At one time I wanted to live by the ocean but the homes are now over a million dollars, or two. How did you like the transition from San Diego to Texas and was it a drastic change from what you are use to seeing and doing. Can you elaborate? Thanks.

I am in San Diego formulating plans to re-locate with DH to San Antonio (my alma mater & many fond memories there!).

I paid $3.65 the other day for premium (dang'd old German import) but see that it's about $3.15 here in Houston.

Would love to hear the response to Texasdreamin' question on how your transition has been. I seem to get a little anxious when I think about leaving the beautiful blue skies & proximity to the ocean (not that we use it much).

You will hit either Galveston or South Padre Island. There is also Corpus Christi (not a whole lot a beach there) and North Padre Island. From SA the closest beaches are going to be Corpus & N. Padre area. Near CC there is Port Aransas. There is a nice small resort there.

You do know that Schlitterbahn (the countries #1 waterpark) is just up the road in New Braunfals. Schlitterbahn has a park in S. Padre and a new one that just opened in Galveston.

If you are looking for a island getaway w/ heavy culture, Galveston is it. Unique in it's own way and kind of quirky. Big on stage productions and they celebrate Mardi Gras ala New Orleans style.

Now, none of the beaches in Texas are beautiful white sand and crystal clear blue water. But they have improved. The days of oil all over the place in Galveston are thankfully gone.
