I'm a Registered Nurse re-locating to your fine city soon. I'll be renting initially. Do you folks have any suggestions in communities with fairly safe rental homes or apartments within a 20 minute drive to a hospital? I'm from a small community so this is quite a leap for me. I've heard the areas west and northwest of the city are nice...But, I have not a clue. Thanks Y'all!!

The South Texas Medical Center is a nice area of town with a lot of apartments.

Personally I would look there, because even if you got a job at a hospital in another part of town it wouldn't be too bad a drive.

Are there any systems your looking at in particular? I'm in administration for a health system so if you have any questions about the different health systems in town feel free to PM me.
