I've noticed alot of graffiti (some in more areas than others) throughout SA. How does the city combat this and who pays for it (the taxpayer)??

If you haven't had a chance to visit, go to MySA.com and register. It's the online news source for San Antonio. Use their search engine for "graffiti" and you'll see lots of articles on battling it. I read one very interesting article about the "art" behind the graffiti. They've traced a lot of the sources from the gangs out of LA.....Crips and Bloods....and offshoots. You'll find some great articles about volunteers that powerwash, paintover and/or sandblast a lot of it. Very inspiring city heros.

Are you new to SA? If so welcome!

Thanks wCat! Great source of information. I'll probably try to volunteer and help in the battle of these eyesores. Yes, I am new to SA. I've been here since August.

We live on the "far west side" and were also surprised by all the graffiti, especially around Marbach and 410. After I tried to buy some spray paint at Lowes for a home improvement project I learned that the city has set some regulations in place in an attempt to control the graffiti. You must be over 18 to buy it, provide and ID, and whoever sells it must keep it under lock and key at all times, much like cigarettes.

Default Try getting a hold of your local City Counsel Person~

To discuss what is being done about the Graffiti in your area and how you can help. Getting this problem resolved is a cause for which all San Antonio residents should get behind.

Here is a "round about" link of you:

If enough people here are tired of it, maybe they could get a "City-Data" group together some Saturday to go out there and take care of some of it.

I'm not sure what city it was, but I've heard that when someone is caught marking something, the punishment from the judge is usually to not only have to pressure wash his/her work, but also clean up other markings around the city/county. I wish other cities would do something like this.

I don't know about you guys but I believe in child labor... I was planning on getting my 9 yr old to scrub around town while I drink a nice cold coke in my truck occaisionally yelling, "you're doing great, but you missed a spot"!!

Seriously though, a Saturday group wouldn't be a bad idea.... Good thinking Chimpie!
