Question San Antonio's NFL allegiance?

We're excited to be relocating to San Antonio within the next three weeks. I've been lurking on this forum for months and have gotten a tremendous amount of information here. I know the best neighborhoods, the best bars, the best restaurants, the best furniture stores, all the rest. But the question I HAVEN'T found answered here is a critical one, at least to a rabid NFL fan.

When I moved from Michigan to S. Florida, I switched my allegiance from the Lions to the Dolphins. At the time, that was pretty easy, given the quality of those two teams. The most compelling reason, though, was that Miami games are all televised in S. Florida, and the Lions, of course, are not. I'm not interested in seeking out a bar to watch games long-distance, nor in purchasing an NFL satellite package.

So when I land in SA, which NFL team will be regularly televised on local TV, the Cowboys or the Texans? I need to find out quick so I can start reading up on my new favorite team.

Both the Cowboys and the Texans will be aired on local TV stations.

I think that more people in San Antonio are Cowboy Fans than they are Texan Fans.

However, a couple of the cowboy games are going to be on the NFL network next year. If you're a DirectTV subscriber you will get that channel, but the cable company here in SA doesn't carry it.

I was in a similar situation two years ago when I relocated from Northern Virginia to San Antonio. Being a rabid Redskin fan I was not looking forward to seeing the guys with the stars on their helmets play every Sunday in lieu of the Redskins. To me the only real solution was to get DirecTV with its Sunday Ticket package. And that's exactly what I did. Since then I've been a happy camper around football season because I can see all Redskin games home or away despite living outside the Greater Washington area. The price for satellite is comparable to the local cable service. And of course if you're a diehard fan of a team other than Dallas or Houston being able to watch your team play during the season is priceless. Actually what I'd really like is for San Antonio to get its own NFL team. That would make me incredibly happy. Maybe in a few years?

It's Cowboys or nothing here. The Texans had a huge chance to steal a lot of Boys fans away and at least try to become a factor in Texas football, but they chose not to draft Vince Young.

He was a statewide hero after winning the Rose Bowl by himself two years in a row. In addition to getting an unbelievable player, they would have gained a huge market share, which is next to impossible to do in Cowboys country.

They missed their train.

This is all coming from a Giants fan.

Let me remind you that SA's first major pro football team was the Texans of the CFL, CFL is a major league too. That doesn't include the WFL, USFL, WLAF and Arena football.

We're cursed with the Cowboys eating up airtime on our televisions. Either ways, I think Saturdays are more exciting than Sundays. Big12 football is where it's at!

Now a days just about every bar has the NFL package not just sports bars. I would say the most popular place to go is Fatso's (Bandera) or Champs (I-10 & DeZavala), but remember these places get packed. So, your from MI and you switched teams huh......thats not a rabid fan. The Dolphins will provide as much glory days as your Lions did. Ive lived in SA almost my whole life and I have always been a HUGE Redskins fan. Everybody I know loves Dallas and I wouldnt have it any other way. When the NFL package came out I knew I had to have it, and its worth every penny. Im going on my 5th year of having it, now I know my skins have been going through a ruff patch for a few years now, but hey thats why Im a rabid fan.

Hey the Skins play the Phins first game of the season....good luck.

The OP never claimed to be a "rabid fan." That was a reply from another poster, who has maintained allegiance to the Redskins because they're a "rabid fan."

For what it's worth...GO CHIEFS!

How true, what a bunch of morons. How'd that David Carr work out for them? But Young did go to Houston. Didn't he go to the North Houston suburb of Nashville? I was sad when the Oilers moved away.
