Is there such thing as a "student advocate" somone who would be knowledgeable of the student rights? My son got in trouble for talking too much-he admits his guilt, however the punishment is 3 days ISS. The principle says this is because it is the second offense for this issue. However, we never knew about the first offense and the school admits that no one contacted (or tried) after the first offense which did not allow us to address the issue with our son; thus preventing the second inccident. The principle does not wish to hear what we (his parents) have to say, she is enforcing the three days ISS regaurdless. Which is where I have a problem, shouldn' t the parent have more of a say in what is done to their child?

The school is Luna. My son is ADHD-- and i am quite sure he does talk too much, that has always been an issue. I just feel like 3 days in ISS is harsh, I would even agree with 2 days since he did get 2 office referrals. But the asst Principle pretty much said " this is my call" so I guess that as a parent- you lose your rights when the kid steps into the school.

If the principals are not talking with you, then call the district at (210) 397-8500. Northside Independent School District -- Student Services Department -- San Antonio, TX might be a good place to start; but don't stop until you are satisified that the matter has been addressed. NISD is very responsive to students' parents, and there is no reason you shouldn't be able to discuss your son's situation.

Good luck!

I don't live in SA (yet!) but this would be the same procedure you would follow in any school district. At least here in Miami, the last thing a principal wants to hear is "I'm taking this to the District." Parents have a lot more power than they think...good luck!

I dont know what 504 is, I assume SpEd is special Ed-and no he is not.

I did get in touch with the district and they are supposed to be looking into the situation and calling me back... I guess I will wait a little longer before calling to see what the status is

Good luck to you. If you don't hear back go directly to the Superintendent, if that doesn't work the school board is next.
