This is hilarious...people actually expect the government--the licensed and legal user of the frequency--to negate the need to protect the nation's highest secrets so they can have the luxury of opening their garage doors using unlicensed devices?

Oh, and maybe they need to read the FCC warnings that were included with their garage door openers when they got them. Y'know, the ones that tell you the possibility of interference!

Lastly, they need to make the effort to get a little more info than what the local news is spouting. It is not "jamming," it is interference; and if anyone needs the definitions to explain the difference, just let me know...

the government does own that portion of the spectrum and it is not jamming. Trust me, you would most definitely know jamming if you saw it and you're not going to see the government doing it here.

as far as the remotes for ceiling fans, look at my earlier post. I don't think they even operate in the same range as garage door remotes.

Man, that was an interesting post.
You make it sound as if the FCC was created in 2009 even though it's been around for more than 70 years.
The FCC and NTIA (government) control all of the radio spectrum frequencies in the US.
OET -- FCC Radio Spectrum Home Page

If the government didn't control the radio spectrum, we wouldn't be able to have cell phones, DirecTV/DishTV, bluetooth, wireless internet, etc, etc.
Because anybody would get on those frequencies to broadcast whatever they want and "jam" everybody else's signal.

Here's the radio spectrum allocations
United States frequency allocations 2003
Look at the big blue bars, and you'll see the AM/FM radio frequencies and TV frequencies.
If you've ever enjoy them with an antenna, that's because "the heavy handdeness of government" made it possible.

Time to re-open old wounds!

I've noticed a decrease in the range in which my garage door opener is operating, much like it did back when all this started. Has anyone else experienced this?

I suspect the LMRS has been turned back on...so it may be time to get the ol' retrofit kits to change the frequencies!

Or maybe I've got to invite RD over to do some of his magic voodoo!

Cheers! M2

Noticing here too M2. We programmed hubby's new truck back in August to open the garage with the buttons in his truck. This week, we're not able to open the garage with the programmed remote in his truck. It has worked 1 time in the last 4-5 days. Maybe this is the reason why?

The remote in my car (that came w/ the garage door--my car isn't as technically savvy like hubby's new truck ) works fine.

I saw that someone created a fix. He took some speaker wire (copper) and spliced it into the wire antenna that hangs down from the garage door motor. He then ran the speaker wire to where it was outside the house. Supposedly, his door and several neighbors worked from this fix.

I extended my wire all the way out onto my driveway and it still didn't help. Would people support getting a petition signed? This is ridiculous. I'm going to guess that 1,000 people are impacted by this. So the community is going to spend about $100,000 because the government can't change their frequency?? Where is this country headed?

You need to go back and read through this thread, Federal law and the FCC give the DoD priority to use this frequency. Sign as many petitions as you want, it isn't going to change a thing...
