I'm a parent of a NISD PPCD student that takes a bus not 5 miles from these shootings...I'm just curious...is it customary for this school district not to notify parents of students that this has happened?

Looks like the first shooting was on the 14th. What the heck is going on here that I have to find out about this on the news?

There doesn't seem to be anything on NISD's website, either. I'd be pissed if my son was a bus rider. I think when he starts at Warren (or Jay--dunno yet which hs he'll be at) I will continue driving him every day. I think it's irresponsible of the district to not notify parents of incidents like this.

Silver Creek--I think you're closer to Westover Hills, right? Where all the richers live.

We're zoned for Warren, but a few years back it was Taft. Who knows--he has 2 more years of middle school and I doubt it will change but you never know. Also, he's considering applying for John Jay for the science and engineering magnet school. We'll see....

I am with you. I would be totally PO'd if my kids rode any of the NISD buses and I was not informed of this.

Parents should have rec'd a notice the day after the first shooting. Crazy!!

One of those shootings happened in the area of 151 & Ingram Rds. Too close for comfort.

Our bus was shot at after a high school football game and it hit the window I was sitting at The school at the time didn't do anything about it, either. The reason? Because it was "only a .22"...and it was life in a border town. But, if it was my kid that was on that bus that day, I would've been my own Texas Ranger that night.

That wasn't the first time I was shot at, though...

I just heard on fox that one shooting was at Potranco and Hunt Lane. The other was 1604 and Marbach. That puts the Potranco/Hunt shooting just about 2-3 blocks from my house. And this bus had about 15 elementary kids on it. So that tells me this bus was *probably* heading to Murnin ES. Just a guess but probably correct. I have a son that goes there and this is the first I've heard of this.

Even though my kids are grown, I would definitely contact NISD.

Suggestion: Copy this thread's url address and paste into a contact e-mail to NISD. That way they'll know there is more than one concerned parent.

This does not surprise me one bit, I think this may have been the cause of road rage towards the bus driver. you see most of these NSISD bus drivers think they have the right of way on every possible scenario. They use the "I have America's youth driving with me, the rest of Y'all can wait" attitude. I have seen the way they drive, and I have reported the bus numbers but I guess they have grown tired of me.
