Can anyone recommend good dog boarding kennels or pet sitting services? My husband and I are taking a trip for a week towards the end of June and need some good, safe, inexpensive lodging for our two dogs. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

rob cary is awesome, but on the expensive side. That being said - it is the only place we use.

Petsmart on 281 near Bitters has a Pet Hotel now. I was considering boarding my cat there. I think cat's were about $16 per night. I don't know what the facilities are like for dogs, but they seemed very organized and clean and pet friendly!! But...I agree...Rob Cary if it fits your wallet!

I had 2 dogs until last year. They had a bad experience the first time I boarded them. I just didn't have the heart to do it again. About 10 years ago I found Bark and Purr pet sitters. My dogs loved the young lady who came to the house a couple of times a day while I was gone. It's been a while since I used them but I remember they were reasonable for 2 dogs. They were located northest of SA. Good Luck

this has been something I've been wondering for a while and I'll remember the advice..
I do have a few questions though.. are the pens they keep them in air conditioned? and do they actually give them a lot of attention? my dogs are extremely precious to me and we've never left them behind.. one day I'm sure we'll have to though and I want them to be comfortable. They're used to living the very good life in an air conditioned house and usually with someone around them most of the time..
another question would be is there a limit that can stay in the pen together? I have a chow, chihuahua and two chiweenies (sisters) and they wouldn't want to be apart, especially not the sisters.. those two can never be apart for more than a minute or so and that's how I ended up with two of them...

our two dogs stay together at Rob Cary. We have a German Shorthair Pointer and a brushel griffon. They get an air conditioned room with an outdoor run. We always pay the extra 4-5 dollars for moderate play time (whatever that means).

We use The Palms off of Bandera/1604. It is wonderful-- very clean and professional. Our vet is right across the parking lot so that makes me feel better, too. Palms also does grooming for our two dogs and we've always been pleased.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I went to the RobCary website and it actually isn't too bad cost wise since they give a discount (around 12 bucks a day) for 2 dogs. We're moving from Washington, DC so I guess anything would be less expensive comparatively. Thanks again for all the replies!

hmm, I need a new groomer also.. my current one is kinda strange and I don't really trust him much anymore. Plus he for some reason hates to shave my chow. She's from San Diego and hates having long hair, but for some reason the guy wants her to have long hair. Seems every time we go there he tries to talk us out of it, but I insist because the chow is Much happier without hair, especially in the summer.
do you have a large dog that you bring to get groomed? my chow isn't huge, but she obviously isn't a chihuahua either.. and I'm wondering what the price would be. I'm currently paying around $70 for the shave
