Default salons in San Antonio...need recommendations!!

can anyone recommend a good SA salon for some highlights and a cut? I am having to leave earlier than expected (for a funeral) and won't have time to get my hair seen to before I go.

thanks

Avalon Hair Design and Spa...any good? It's in the Stone Oak area...according to the website...

anybody? I'm attending a rather unexpected funeral. I can't get an appointment today where I live and I fly out tomorrow morning. I really don't want to look horrible when I meet up with family I haven't seen in a while.

any suggestions would be so appreciated...I need some decent highlights a cut.

Thanks in advance!!

That Old Where to go for your hair ???

This thread should help you. I heard ULTA at the rim does really good hi-lites and cut but super expensive or Toni and Guy at La Cantera. Hope this helps.

You can try Emali Lane--off Sonterra in the same complex as The Egg and I. I think they may even take walk-ins. I've had good luck there so far--and I really struggled for awhile to find someone who does a good short hair cut. She did a pretty good job on my highlights, too.

The best highlights I've had here were done at Folawn's; but it's pricey, and I wasn't as pleased with the cut. No walk ins there as far as I know.

I like Emily at Toni and Guy at The Shops. Me Salon off of Camp Bullis is very good, I like Mary Ann. Capri Salon off I-10 and Huebner is good as well.

Aveda Institute at the Pearl Brewery.

They are the Aveda training school and you can get your stuff done by students at prices greatly reduced from going to an actual Aveda spa. You can often pick the level of the student and all work is checked by the instructors to insure you do not leave with a bad job done to your hair.

My wife loves it and it gives the students the opportunity to work on peoples hair.

DO NOT go to the Aveda school if you are at all concerned about being able to fix mistakes before being seen in public soon after your salon visit. These are STUDENTS! DO NOT believe the line that the teachers are there for "quality control". I have had two bad haircuts get "approved" by instructors there, even when I expressed concern about styling and quality. I later went to Jeff (a City-Data favorite who recently opened his own salon) to have a pro fix the Aveda student mistakes.

If all you're concerned with is saving a buck, by all means, go to the Aveda school. But your post makes it clear that you're tight on time and need to look good fast. Don't take chances that you won't be able to remedy in time.
