I'm not a regular biker, but wanted to know if these places perform bike check-ups/tune-ups? I have had my bike for a VERY long time, have never had anyone look at it, and would like someone to just check the tires, brakes, etc. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

Most shops will do a basic tune-up which will address tires, brakes, gearing, etc...

Do yall know about how much it would cost to replace the gear shifting things, (noob ) the front and rear derailers...

Basically, my bike doesn't shift right, and i think they're messed up or bent, or just plain cheap. Also the wire that controls them is frayed because my significant other thought he could fix it himself and probably just messed it up more. Youtube shows that it's easy to fix, but he can't get it to work.

The actual bike was only 100 bucks, and I'm wondering how much it would cost to just get some decent parts installed. And since it looks so easy on the internet, I was wondering around how much to expect that to cost.

Both my bf and I are awesome at fixing computers and he's even fixed the boards on his dlp tv, but at actual real world "easy stuff"... we suck.

It's this bike.

My friends and i all take our bikes to ride away bicycles- they are fair priced, know what they're doing, and have been great to deal with. there are 2 locations, one on redland and 1604 , and the other off I-10 around the huebner area. I have used and would recommend either of them.

Actually, I am hearing not-so-good things about Planet Bike over on RasPa (the SA MTB forum), so that recommendation may no longer be any good; but most still recommend Helotes Bicycle...

mojosalsa, I don't know if it's worth upgrading the components on what is considered a "department store mountain bike." You might be better off saving your money and applying it to a better bike. Those lower-end, Asian-made bikes aren't well known for holding up; and if you plan to do any serious riding it would be a better idea to get something from one of the more reputable brands (Specialized, Giant, Trek, Cannondale, etc)...

Cheers! M2
