I have lived here for about a year. This past year has hands down been the most boring and unfufilling of my life. In the past, I have always made friends either through work or school. Here, I am the only female in my workplace. There were 2 others when I started, but they have moved to other sections (which I am currently trying to do as well). The guys I work with are all at least 15 years older than me, as are their wives. I don't have the means/time to take classes after work, since most of them would keep me up well past my bedtime. I have been to San Antonio several times over the years, and so have done the whole Riverwalk, downtown, Sea World, Fiesta Texas things. I'm not really into clubbing anymore (had my fill in my early 20's), concerts can get expensive and I am so frustrated at not having anything creative or stimulating to do! My fiance works random hours, so we can never do anything together, even go to the movies because his boss could call and he would have to leave right away. I'm so tired of trying to find things to do by myself, does anyone have ideas about weekend events or classes that are good places to just get out and about? Not singles events, just something to get out of the house and out of a rut! Thanks!

San Antonio and the surrounding area is a great place for photography. You could take a class at SAC or weekends at the SW School of Arts and Crafts, and wander around and really get to know San Antonio. There are tons of music festivals and free shows / live music with no cover. You could also volunteer. Pick a cause close to your heart, and see what you can do. You'd meet like minded people there, and friendships are bound to happen.

Try the Farmer's Market on Saturdays from 9-1, rain or shine.

Take some cooking classes at Central Market or Whole Foods.

Go to Clay Casa and make something.

Museums, the missions, and the zoo are great for getting out.

Go to a Missions baseball game (season starts soon!!! )

Go geocaching.

Volunteer with the United Way....tons of opportunities there.

All of these places I've mentioned have websites....get to googlin'.

good luck

Sapphire mentioned Clay Casa and I've been and it's fun and theraputic to get to do some painting. They can also point you to a contact who does the whole clay making thing a'la the movie Ghost. I forgot the name of it.

Darn...I thought this would show that SAMA (San Antonio Museum of Art) is free on Tuesdays. That's always fun.

Speaking of SAMA.....join groupon.com and get offers for great coupons. I just bought a family membership to SAMA for $35, for a year. Great value.....but you can get ideas for fun things to do from groupon.

Fiesta is coming up, and then the Texas Folklife Festival. I can only speak to the TFF being a great time.....I am sure I am the only person in town who has NEVER been to a Fiesta event....almost 25 years running, so why bother now?

SAMA is a great call, I would start from the Pearl Brewery complex and hike along the new river walk...
