I am referring to the Mexican food item made with a flat crispy corn tortilla, topped with refried beans, cheese, and chopped lettuce and tomatoes. (Kind of like a big bean and cheese nacho).

The only restaurant around here that calls them that is Taco Bell.

But I'll agree, that homemade ones are often the best.

Try the ones in Guajillo's at Blanco & Loop 410.
I had them a couple of times and they are absolutely delicious.

Guajillo's? Wow, that's my part of town but I've never been there. I will check them out!

By the way, I've been to that restaurant in all it's previous incarnations, when it was many different other names prior to this. Whopper Burger, Whataburger, a couple of other places, now this.

Yeah I vote for home tostados/chalupas. They are always better and less expensive than out food.

If you make them at home, just be sure to bake the shell for a few minutes, before spreading on the beans & cheese! LoL......took me only once to figure that out!

Surprisingly enough, had some really good chalupas tonight at Specht's store along with some ice cold Dos X on draft.

Yes. I always wondered why the precooked taco/chalupa shells were never *fully* cooked. They can sell fully cooked chips, but why not the shells too?

Is there any place around here that sells vampiros? They're like chalupas, but better if you ask me. The only place I ever saw them was in Mazatlan and the only place that sold them was this place that was set up at night. Not sure if that's where the name comes from or not, but they sure were good. A lot of tequila may have influenced that opinion, though...
