Anyone know what, if anything, is going on with the craft beer movement in Texas? Actually, is there a craft beer movement in Texas? Looking for beer festivals and a good selection of craft beer in the San Antonio area. Been to the few breweries that are here, not impressed but it's better than nothing so I'm glad they exist. Been to some of the better known brewpubs and finally found a decent beer selection at Alon Market. What's up with the laws in this state and is anything being done about it? Apparently there's a powerful lobby of some sort keeping some great microbrews out of Texas. Lots of awesome beer festivals around the country but not in Texas?? Checked online, not much seems to be happening here. Beer festivals are great fundraisers!

All pictures from the last 3 weeks...

As a disclaimer I am a IPA freak, lots of HOPs IBU 55 or better I'm happy...

This is from the Freetail Brewery near Military and 1604 on the Northside, their dry hopped Buffalo IPA (I had a few earlier today) is choice...

Blue Star Brewery great ambiance and I love their IPA and the new King William Barley Wine style but use caution.

I guess it's because I am a biker but I love this place, bike night on Mondays..

I must admit, I had a high school buddy visit a couple weeks ago, he got laid off from Anheuser Bush after 11 years (InBev..). I took him to every micro brewery in the area and he loved it!! He also had a better camera than me and took most of the pics..

People take for granted the wonderful local brew Shiner.... You can go into almost any BBQ joint in Texas and enjoy a wonderful Shiner beer, in the Midwest you are stuck with a McBeer (Anheuser Busch).

I took these at Blacks BBQ in Lockhart..

What about my fav....the Spoetzl brewery in Shiner, TX - the last of the independent Texas breweries.

Home to my favorite beer - Shiner Bock

Check out "Beer Wars" - documentary about the 'laws' that prevent many microbreweries from getting their quality product out the masses - you may never buy another Budweiser again. The OP mentioned Texas law, but its not just Texas. Its nationwide and its basically a beer monopoly with the big three buying up premium ad time/space, store shelf space, and making it virtually impossible for the little guy to get their product on the truck.
