and have concerns about the huge power lines that run right behind the lot. I know that there are general concerns accross the US about the power lines and the risk of certain childhood cancers. What I am curious about is.. if anyone is familiar with the Avery Rd area, and know specifics about the powerlines and how many emfs they generate. Any info is most helpful.. we have a four year old. Thanks

With so many houses on the market, I always wonder why people buy houses with adjacent power lines, big green utility boxes in the front or back yard, drainage culvert along the side yard, etc. They look horrible. While you may get a house like that a little cheaper(not always), it's a negative when you go to sell....

ummmmm....you "have concerns" and yet you're still under contract? I'm sorry - but have you also given thought to the resale value because of those lines? If it's not too late....cancel!

price really wasn't the issue.... we looked at 25 houses and this was the only one found to fit all of our needs.... the big silver towers are not directly in back of us.. more like 4-5 houses down to the left... we're really just concerned about the bigger lines running down the back of the entire neighborhood

That'd still be a deal-breaker for me, and others as well, I suspect. Personally, I'd keep looking - especially since it sounds like it's a question of the house design. Look around in other neighborhoods where that builder built - bet you'll find the same floorplan (likely within THAT neighborhood, as well).

There is NO scientific proof of anything caused by powerlines. The comfort level of that is up to each individual buyer.

If you hear the lines humming then it's too much power to live near. And with a 4 year old, I wouldn't live there. I'm glad to hear you retracted the offer. Maybe someone with no kids will buy it. I remeber seeing a show about a farm with cows and power lines running over the farm. The cows kept dropping over for no reason. Some died. I know there has been no proof that it's the power lines, I'm not willing to take a chance.

We bought a house when we were young with no kids. It had High tension lines running nearby as well. The lines didn't concern us much until we had kids.....then, it bothered us 24/7. We sold it right after child number 2 came along. Moving gave us peace of mind. I'm glad you retracted your offer. If it bothers you now, it will keep you awake worrying once you live there. As others have said. It's a buyers market. Why settle for that one?
