Default Luminaria: Arts Night In San Antonio

Here's a web site for the SA annual Luminarias even coming up March 13th. If you haven't been it's a treat for the whole family.

Luminaria: Arts Night In San Antonio - March 13, 2010 (http://www.luminariasa.org/schedule/ - broken link)

They are on Facebook too if you want the latest info on the shows and artists.

Luminaria is San Antonio’s annual celebration of art and artists. Held in March and overseen by San Antonio’s creative leaders, it is free of charge and showcases all art forms in an outdoor setting and inside various venues downtown. In addition, special arts events and performances throughout the city occur simultaneously and/or throughout the month in conjunction with Contemporary Art Month.

Luminaria spotlights San Antonio’s cultural assets for local citizens and visitors alike and is made possible through the generosity of artists, arts organizations, volunteers, and public and private donations.

In 2009, 185,000 people attended Luminaria.........................

Yes I did,
but the webpage is not going to tell me what it saw last year when it its family to Luminaria

I can show you 1000 webpages that describe their event as "The best in World" when in reality only 20 people go to that event everyyear.

OK, I guess you meant: Has anyone been? What did you do and see? Did you take kids with you? If so, did they have fun?

I get it now.

Also, my post (which I copiedandpasted) from their website, says 185,000 people went. Which a couple of years ago, I could say 185,000 people can't be wrong, but no, that's changed now. Still, that's a lot of people and hopefully some of them can enlighten you on their experiences there.

Last year it rained on the date and it went on anyway, so I'm sure the crowd was down. Also, the venue seems, by the map shown, to be smaller than previous. I know the nights were best with light shows and better performances. My opinion!!!!!
In any case, it's a great street party for the whole family. I'll be there. Look for me and say hi.

Actually it is a one day event.....and while activity in setting up and preparing for the event goes on during the day, it is meant to be a night time event. As Sapphire posted, it is in conjunction with many of the art/music/theater venues in SA and beyond. March is designated as CAM in San Antonio....Contemporary Art Month. The City is the canvas....painted with lights, music, poetry, short plays, artwork and a lot of fun. The lights are the highlight, and the website explains the coordinated light show held about 8 or 9?? Anyway...it's all there.

I remember someone posted fantastic pictures from last year. Anyone know how to dig those up....hopefully they are available still! I love this event because it is just that......one event....not stretched out over 10 days like Fiesta. (not hating on Fiesta.....just liking things simple and sweet these days. )

Where would be a good place to park for this, anyone know? I still get so confused going downtown, and have no idea where to park sometimes and end up missing events.
