Recent Rains Cause Mosquito Population To Bloom

SAN ANTONIO -- The recent rain that fell on San Antonio has caused a blooming of the mosquito population, particularly on the city's Northeast side.

Leonard Melcher, senior sanitarian with MetroHealth's Vector Control unit, said eggs laid in dried-out ditches and culverts were able to hatch, thanks to the rain that fell and moisture that still remains in some areas.

"Nacogdoches Road, along Salado Creek Basin, Jones Maltsberger, some of the areas around McAllister Park," Melcher said. "There are also a few pockets on the West side, Leon Creek." (Full story (http://www.ksat.com/news/29340846/detail.html - broken link))

I got a good amount of rain on Monday evening as well as today. Started raining heavily here about 5:15 and has slowed to a light drizzle after about 40 minutes.

Got about 10 solid minutes of rain. Can see dark clouds in all directions, nothing here anymore.
