Scotland, Iceland, British Isles regions, Russia too I think, but not sure, were hottest ever. That's what I was referring to. I'm sure we have nothing to worry about in SoTX.

true, a few northern countries did experience an unusually warm may. but that's hardly "lots of countries...all over the world." the global may temperature was significantly cooler than normal (http://vortex.nsstc.uah.edu/public/msu/t2lt/tltglhmam_5.2 (broken link)).

oh geesh.. so anyhow, HERE in SAN ANTONIO.. my weather gadget is saying it's already 90 and it feels like it outside. How bad does it have to get HERE before anyone will think of cloud seeding or anything like that? It's looking like this could be a disaster HERE in SAN ANTONIO..

Not unique or unusual to our area... but it certainly is maritime. If you step outside you'll notice we normally have a nice supply of humidity this time of year... at night as the temperatures drop, the moisture in the air is able to condensate into a low layer of clouds. After the sun comes out, they burn out fast yielding the daily blue skies we enjoy.

The reason we don't have precip chances is due to the fact that the cloud layer is so thin, there's not enough water in these clouds to produce rain.

Actually, the northern hemisphere is dealing with one of the coolest Mays in years. There are of course anomalies as our region, but all in all it's been relatively cool (although the last time I checked the data was before the Eastern US heatwave which died nearly as quickly as it came).

For cloud seeding to work, you need favorable atmospheric conditions for storm development. We're stuck under this ridge of high pressure which trumps any vertical development of clouds -- which is why it's been so dry.
Definitely by no means do we have a disaster on our hands, you'll quickly realize here that you're either stuck in a drought or a flood. HOWEVER, Stage 1 water restrictions are coming very soon, read rules here: San Antonio Water System: Stage 1 Drought Restrictions

Thanks for the Stage 1 link...something I meant to look up but never got around to...

My favorite one is this, though pretty easy to comply with.

"Use of fountains, waterfalls, or other aesthetic water features — outdoors or indoors — is prohibited."

I also read that, spamatdan. (Thanks to Anthony for posting it...)

I wonder if that applies to those little "Zen fountains" you sometimes see in homes. They're no bigger than a dictionary, but technically they're fountains.

Well, I'm going to buy one of those fountains and run it 24x7--with bottled water.

True story, though: We had a really dry summer in DC one year and the local water utilities went on "full alert." As time progressed, neighbors were turning each other in for water waste. It got so bad, that when an investigator stopped at one house to check on a waste claim, it turns out the person was washing his new BMW 3-series every weekend.

The punchline? He was using BOTTLED WATER to wash his car! There was nothing the investigator could do.
