Another reason why I AM NOT FILLING OUT MY CENSUS FORM! The problem is parenting, but on the other hand if my son or daughter want to be fat they should HAVE THE BLOODY RIGHT TOO.
It is called fat acceptance.
Having Liberterian principles in politics many of the times, This is where Government is the problem not the solution which is Personal Responsibility. One of the very few things I like about Governor Rick Perry is his anti stimulus stance. He should intervene on this. That money could be used for expanded public transportation, that amount of money could make VIA upgrade all of it's buses and not charge a fare to ride for the next decade.
Federal Government should be limited to a certain extent applying the Constitution and Human Rights. The rest should be left to the states, and the local level. Local Problem, Local Solution not the feds.
School Lunches should be determined by the Parent Teacher Association local chapter not the Federal Department of Education, and so should lesson plans. Whatever happened to the I in ISD which stands for Independant School District not FSD or Federal School District.
I ask only because I honestly don't know: How does sales tax work with the Lonestar card? Are taxes taken out of the amount the person has available on the card (so in essence it would work kind of like a gift card)?
There is no tax using the lone star card, when the lone star card is swiped the eligable food items are tax exempt, there is a clause somewhere because it is a federal and state program that makes the items tax exempt. I know because I used to have food stamps, But this it what pisses me off, I work 2 jobs, and receive Social Security benefits. Social Security is counted as income so when the Cost of Living Adjustment was made in 2009 for people on Social Security I made $5 over the amount and therefore disqualified for receiving any more food stamp benefits (I made too much for the $10 now $14 a month food stamp benefit)
However if I didn't work and have say 5 kids I could get over $300 a month.
American needs food stamp reform. They should be a household limit on Food Stamps (no more than a family of 5) plus a bonus when work is found and you prove to the case worker that you have been employed for at least 1 month.
I have known people who won't work because if they do the food stamps go away. That is horrible and against the values of a functional society.
Now that this ObamaCare has passed, we need to contact our Senators and tell them we will vote them out, unless food stamp reform is made.

I think my point on this matter is clear.
Wow.... yeah, your point in that matter is clear!!
But I do not agree with: "if my son or daughter want to be fat they should HAVE THE BLOODY RIGHT TOO" because young kids do not know what kind of problems are they facing when they get fat. Parents should try to explain the danger of diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty walking, and the depression associated with all the symptoms.
Young kids do not have “bloody right” to do many things; they cannot make informed decisions about stuff they do not understand. Do you think that they have a “bloody right” to smoke, drink, stay up all night, misbehave in school or skip it, take drugs, fight etc.? Until the kids are old enough to make those decisions the parents should decide what’s right, wrong or healthy for them. Parents that let their kids do whatever they want and believe that the kids have a bloody right to do so - are unfit to be parents.

I rather see that money go into building city parks that San Antonio needs
instead of going to Colombian politicians that claim to be stopping drug trafficking and putting that money in their pockets.
I do not agree that lunches and lesson plans should fall under the PTA........I've worn both hats..been a PTA President and now I'm a district employeed. I will be honest and say when I was a PTA President I was qualified for alot, but lesson plans and school lunches would not have been it.
Lunches are the school budget so thats the states issue. Lesson plans...thats a cirriculum issue..again state and the Teacher since he/she is the one teaching it.....

Right! Use more money to build more places that people won't utilize! What is it with this "if you build it, they will come" attitude? You're talking freakin' South Texas weather! While there are periods of time the weather is conducive to being outdoors and active, you can forget April through October! There are a few hardy souls willing to take on heat exhaustion and sunstroke, but the folks who really need to be out there aren't. In my neighborhood, there are at least five parks/rec centers within a three-mile radius and they're usually deserted. What do you propose? That the city round up all the obese people in the area and force them to run around the parks?

Please, don't talk to me about how hot it is here, and that's the reason why people don't go out and exercise. That is ridiculous--I'm sorry, it just is.
Houston is just as hot as San Antonio, and 20 times more humid. The city itself maintains 350 parks and 200 greenspaces...and the county takes care of 146 parks and over 100 miles of hike and bike trails. Memorial Park is the largest city park and believe me, thousands run, bike, and walk there EVERYDAY during the peak of summer.
This has nothing to do with temperature. It has to do with a lazy attitude in food and exercise, and no real facilities to speak of. Bexar County and the City of San Antonio is sadly lacking in that department. It's really depressing, too, because there are so many beautiful areas in which to build parks. So much potential...wrapped up in so much bad bureaucracy.
I would be interested to see how the school lunches are impacted, especially in lower income districts like the one in which I teach. I am at an elementary school and there are no soda machines or snack machines (except in the faculty lounge). At my school, ALL kids get free breakfast and free lunch (not making a comment on whether this is appropriate/fair/etc. or not - just stating the fact that they do all get it). And what they get is... yuck. I am amazed at times that this is what a federal program is providing as nutrition for these kids. Breakfast each day is milk (white or chocolate) and/or orange juice with one of the following delivered to the classroom to be consumed, cleaned up, and thrown away within 15 minutes: Otis Spunkmeyer banana nut muffin, breakfast taco made w/powdered eggs and some kind of bacon, bean and cheese taco, breakfast pizza, bowl of cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, or Frosted Flakes), cup of yogurt with a pack of graham crackers (they never eat the yogurt), or some foul-smelling blueberry something wrapped around a piece of sausage on a stick.
Our local elementary got a grant to provide breakfast to all kids (when a certain % are in the income level for it, it's cheaper/easier to give to all). The grant was a govt grant I think but partially funded by a large corporation. Guess what foods the so called nutritionist put on the menu? Those made by that corporation. And the foods were all high fat/sugar. I was shocked when I heard a nutritionist actually came up with this menu. My kid is not in school yet so I couldn't get on the committee which is addressing school health/nutrition issues, but I know a number of parents who have been trying to fight this.

This is really difficult to explain,
so I thought a picture would be the easiest way to explain it.
