I have heard about doctors in other parts of the country who accept patients and charge a regular monthly rate. This monthly rate will cover the cost of all visists for the month. Certainly if you need something that the doctor doesn't offer, then you will have to pay extra for it.

I was wondering if any of you know of any doctors in San Antonio that operate in this fashion. If so - do you know of them from personal experience? What are your thoughts?

My doc sure doesn't dendox...and it's interesting that the online article doesn't have any reader comments either - it talks about doctors in Florida, but doesn't say "here in SA, you can see doctors xyz for this type of service" - seems they could have added that, huh?.

I am on a high deducitble plan which saves us quite a bit per month - but the kiddos still get sick, hurt etc. Instead of paying for the multiple trips to the doc in a box or ER - it would be awesome to have a service like this here. I would save a ton of money and feel like I would be getting better care for them.

So, I guess to limit it even more - anyone have a pedi or GP that see kids that do this?

I've heard about this service in Flordia and in the Northern Midwest states but not in Texas. It would be a great service indeed. Keeping my fingers crossed that other City Data users may have some news.

I can't help you on your request specifically.

However, I thought I would pass on some info to you that I saw on News 4 WOAI about a month ago.

There's a doctor in Helotes, Dr. Hector Edwin Tamayo, who provides free services to people if needed, but he asks for a "reasonable donation."

Here's the video that aired on the local news:

Here's his info:

I think I received a flyer from some doc in Stone Oak about a year ago or so touting this kind of service.

This one turned up in a quick Google search...
Dr. Mac 20658 Stone Oak Pkwy TX 78258 PriceDoc Provider

I believe this is something that WALMART will soon be offering. I don't know about you guys, but I dont' like the fact that people can go to WALMART for cheetos and then slip into the doctor's office to check for herpes.

I believe that what you're looking for is called "Concierge Medicine."

Here are a couple of sources for it in San Antonio:

Personalized Healthcare, Dr. Scott Campbell, The Personal Physician, Concierge Medicine, Boutique Medicine

Grey Canyon Medicine - Dr. Brian K. MacGillivray of San Antonio, Texas.

Thanks for letting me know! I guess I'll start going to Target more often now since these weirdos at Walmart have herpes! Yikes, disinfect the store!
