Some rumbles for an Academy. I hope so as compared to a crappola store. Stays empty and sells Christman or Halloween junk once a year. Or a Dollar store.

HEB isn't good on that.

Saw the big water tank, looks like the Tin Woodsman's head with HEB on his forehead.

My God, 63 aisles of Hill Country Brands!!!

The cheese store looks promising. Alon is OK.

OK, since you asked...

My teenage son and I took a quick trip over to check out the new HEB+. Of course, it was very crowded and parking was a pain (hint: take the second entrance past the water tower off of the 1604 access road and go to the east side of the parking lot by the pharmacy entrance, there's more parking open parking over on that side).

I will be honest, comparatively I think the Potranco HEB+ is better. This one seems to have more of a "warehouse" (e.g. Costco) feel to it. The one over off of Portanco always reminded me more of a European supermarket.

Secondly, the outdoor, automotive and hardware sections seem to have less stuff in them as compared to the Potranco store.

Lastly, the places to eat inside the store seem better over at the Potranco location. There is a sandwich shop but it was closed so we couldn't get a good look. We've actually grabbed lunch at the Potranco HEB+ restaurant once and it was pretty good from what I recall.

Maybe once the hubbub settles down we'll get a better feel for this store, but right now there's nothing that makes me want to rush back anytime soon. It's just your standard HEB+...

(Second hint: It's easier to get out by taking the same 1604 access road to Hausman and using the turnaround to southbound 1604 than trying to get out going on Bandera Road and getting back on 1604).

Cheers! M2

I went tonight to pick up a few things. The parking lot was packed, but there were people leaving constantly so I got parked easily. I was surprised by how big the store was. With so many cars in the parking lot, it definitely did not feel like it inside. Comparing it to the other store that it replaced, the store is incredible. Plenty of space, wide aisles. Close to 30 checkout lanes. Larger selections of everything. The new store easily surpasses my needs and expectations.

I'll go sometime next week, that has been our main HEB for awhile since we live just off of Hausman and 1604, the old one was really starting to feel way too small and cramped. Looking forward to a lot more space. My wife did try to go the other day but decided against it because it was so packed and she had our 3 little girls with her (that was opening day I believe). We always prefer go shopping during the week anyway to avoid the weekend crowds.

I just hope they are still selling the fresh guayabas (guavas in English) that the old one did (the one off of De Zavala never had them), I love those things.

Does anyone know if it has an international section with British goods in it? I hate having to travel all the way to, um, that one that does have it! (Can't remember where that one is now, but it's a long bloody travel for me and I'll squeal with delight if this one stocks British stuff!)
