Not having baggers in not uncommon at HEBs. Eventually it will all be automatic self-check outs. Personnel is a big cost - thus rich guys can have the dough and there are few jobs for poorer folk.

On the other hand, some of the staff need customer service lessons - I understand working at a crappy job makes you testy. However, we've run into some really rude folks lately at HEBs.

I hope you're wrong about the automatic check-outs. I don't like them and would rather stand in a long line to avoid them. One good thing I might mention...I haven't experienced any rude cashiers at HEB anytime in recent years...HEB cashiers are pretty good, actually!

Regrets but one kind of flipped out on us the other night. The manager has to set her straight.

Couldn't handle a refund. It was for a cosmetic that had an image of an orange on it. She scanned it for a $5.00 refund. But insisted that the refund should be for $2.00 because there was OJ on the receipt for that price. Needed a UN peace keeping team to settle her down.

HEB tried self-checkouts and scrapped them. So did Walmart. Looks like everyone else is too:

Where is that? The old HEB at Bandera/1604 took them out a year or two ago, as did the Walmart on Bandera when they renovated a little while back.

DeZavala HEB and WalMart - unless I'm having a flashback.

Might be. You mean the Beatles aren't still together?

Haven't been over there in a while, so you could be right.
