I can't speak for the other poster, but my last 2 homes were marina & playa del rey before moving here(la county both for the record).

comparisons are futile.

I left Los Angeles County (Long Beach, precisely) because, even though I LOVE (and I MEAN LOVE) Long Beach, I had become very weary of paying for freeways that collapse during earthquakes, Menendez Bros. and OJ trials, an RTA system that was laid over known earthquake faults, ad nauseum.....

I still get very homesick for it, and when I return to visit, I have to say, everything looks cleaner, less congested, and prettier.
However, I can no longer afford to live there.

I loved living in San Antonio. I would most likely prefer to live there, but Dallas has more jobs. However, Dallas is more expensive than San Antonio - significantly.....
It is also more congested....
On the upside, we have Kroger, Albertson's, Whole Foods, Aldi, one Central Market and La Fiesta. (iffy on the La Fiesta)....

Hey LA-kers just drive 2 counties away to Austin you have that LA San Diego feel. Eventually its all going to be one Corridorplex.

I'm originally from the L.A. county area, my wife was actually born and raised in East L.A. I lived there until about 3 years ago when we made the big move to S.A. At first it seemed odd having lived in a high paced city and now living in half and half city and country kindda setting. It didn't take long to adjust, we now moved south of San Antonio off of I37 outside 1604. We still work in town, but like the quiet country. About a year ago we visited L.A family, we were glad to come back to TX!
