Does anyone else have a rude, disrespectful neighbor and if so how are you handling/dealing with them? I consider myself a patient person and really don't like to make waves but I've had it with them. I'm at the point of wanting to move, but why should I? I have had to call animal control several times for CONTINOUS barking day and night from their dogs who are kept in cages in the back yard 24/7/365. They are barking this very moment. I also called animal control for the stench that comes from the yard b/c they don't hose down the cages from the mess the dogs make. I've called the cops three times already this year b/c they blast LOUD music and get drunk outside in their driveway at 2 oclock in the a.m. The space between our houses is littered with trash and junk that they just leave there...please don't say "have you tried talking with them" b/c she has already said "this is my house and my property and i can do whatever the *&%$ I want"....

Oh my... I hope you told her off after her comment. But I would ask her to at least pick up her trash. That's ridiculous. If they are being loud at 2 am, call the police (non-emergency number) and tell them that your neighbors are disturbing the peace.

Call code enforcement if about the dogs poop and the trash. Use 311 to get to any local gov service.

Have you talked to the neighbors on the other side of the problem neighbors, across the street, behind them, or anyone else that might be disturbed by them? If 3 or 4 households agree to call the police when these people are unreasonably loud or call ACS when they notice they're not caring properly for their animals, it might be more effective.

Excellent strategy - also safety in numbers.
You might also check to see if they are the legal owners of the house. If they aren't then the owners might be able to exert influence. I doubt 'rehabilitation' is going to happen here - the best you can hope for is that they don't own the house and move along to a neighborhood of 'like-minded' folks. Good luck

I agree with the advice given above to work with 311 and Code Enforcement.

Some folks in the forum like to bash HOAs, but this is a great example of a situation where it can help to have a strong HOA in your neighborhood. The HOA can do the confronting and hit the property owners in the wallet if they don't respond to the confronting.

in a case like this I would just give it right back to them

I would get others trash or bags of lawn clippings and accidentally make sure they were spilled in front of their property right at the driveway when no one was looking or saw anything of course

on tuesday night about 3:15 am I would crank my stereo at the open window for about 15 minutes......just loud enough to rattle their window, but not enough for other neighbors to hear it

or just get a HUGE sub woofer and get one of those sound test tracks with low bass and just bass it up for about 10 minutes at 4:37am on wed morning......make sure it looks like you are out of town......give them two blast about 30 minutes apart......trust me they will NEVER figure out where it is coming from

if the cops come just keep it all dark and don't answer the door.....they can't do anything for a noise complaint if you don't show you are home and even if you do they can't kick in the door for that without other cause......just tell them sorry electrical short in your old Mcintosh tube amps when it is cold and you will get it handled up on.....30 minutes after the cops leave give them another STRONG 5 minutes

for the next week after that park where it is a pain in the A for them to enter and leave their driveway.......get a clunker and just flat park it in their way for 45 minutes......move it 5 minutes before the cops and wrecker come and say you came home and fell asleep instead of going right back out to the store like u meant to

accidentally back over their mail box and fix it as poorly as possible

clean up after you and your neighbors pets by flinging it over their back fence

mow your law at 7:15 am on Saturday.....start with the weedeater.....on their side of the lawn......leave the clippings all in the street........come out at 7:45 pm that night and finish them up for an hour with the blower.....blow and leave a lot all on their property....visible

have some friends with junkers park them up and down in front of their house for 4 days

steal their paper every morning.......get a rubber stamp with their address made up.......take it to ALL conventions you go to and make sure and SIGN THEM UP UP UP!......watch that mailbox OVERFLOW!

you get the idea

Geez, that seems exhausting. I'd rather move. Besides, what if that rude person DOES move out.........and a ruder one moves on in? No thanks....life's too short. Find a new home. Yes, I would give in and give up.

Remember that anything you do that is in violation of the law could have SEVERE consequences for you. Some of the suggested "fixes" would involve you facing possible prosecution - NOT a good idea, IMO.

The best things so far:

1. Contact the HOA (if there is one) - they're usually fastest to respond

2. Chances are 9 outta 10 that the idiots are renters - find out who the OWNER is (check w/Bexar Appraisal District) and try contacting them directly. If at ALL possible, have pictures ready to email to them. Remember that you're trying to develop a potential allie - the worst thing you could do is threaten THEM w/legal action at this point. Instead, point out the potential damage to their investment, and the fact that if they're living like this on the OUTside, what's the INside gonna look like?

3. Contact Code Compliance - and keep contacting them until they come out and take action.

4. Learn what the various code issues might be - often, striking up a conversation with a passing LEO will help. They know that folks that live like this often present other law enforcement issues, so they'll usually be pretty helpful in terms of telling you what complaint is most likely to provide the quickest and best results.

if they leave trash outside chances are there is food there for rodents . that alone should get somebody to do something . espacially if you report that you have observed rats in their yard . my father -in law told me to tape their dog barking and play it back around 3am . suppodsedly it will drive a dog nuts to hear him/her self barking .

PS. my spelling today sucks !
