same thing. they also did it when they were campaigning. although I'm not sure they did it for the VP

This kind of security probably goes back to the 60s. I remember being amazed by the tightly-controlled route for a Presidential motorcade back in the 80s when I lived in another city and worked for a TV station that was covering a visit.

If you watch the TV show "24" or movies in the same genre, you have seen the kinds of things that security is supposed to prevent.
