I'm also wondering if there are any warehouse district/industrial spaces that artists rent for studios that are cheap? Although the overall cost of housing is pretty cheap in general, I would love to have a big loft studio for photography

Blue Star Arts Complex - San Antonio, Texas

Like many other places in the area, these types of spaces have become trendy and rental costs have gone up. I am not sure of the cost for blue star but they have contact info for finding out. As these areas are being developed in the new city projects they are going to get hard to rent.

If you click on available properties, it gives details. The spaces are pretty pricey, especially for SA, and rather small. I'm afraid I'm likely going to have to go a bit rougher and fix something up myself.

exactly. You may get lucky and someone on here may know of a place but otherwise you will have to beet the streets for it once you get here. The city is spending a lot of money and effort rejuvenating some of these areas and like I said before they have become trendy and the rents have gone up as they are getting made into lofts and studios.

There is a really cute complex where there used to be a dance studio called La Danza on Blanco road, they fixed it up super nice and it was a loft type. Near Fiesta Grocery and Los Barios maybe you can google La Danza and find the address. This was really nice and I bet inexpensive too!

Here are pictures of the inside of the studio. If you are interested I will be happy to drive the area and get you the correct address.

Don't give up on BlueStar so easily... Lots more available there and most of it isn't on their website. Contact them through email and let them know you're interested in gallery space. They do regular deals with artists and can very quickly lower price based on your income level.
