Jeanne Jakle: New weathercaster on horizon; Fiesta memories

Quote:
Much buzz surrounds the WOAI hiring of John Gerard, Jennifer Broome's successor — with some insiders likening the meteorologist with the silvery blonde hair to KSAT's Steve Browne. <snip> Viewers can decide if there's a resemblance when Gerard debuts May 10.
John was a Chief Meteorologist for the ABC station in Knoxville when I lived there. He was excellent back then. He'll bring the wisecracking personality of Bill Taylor, the weather knowledge of Steve Browne and the fast-talking of (pre-makeover) Jennifer Broome. I don't know if San Antonio will like him, but I will.

How did I guess that it was going to be somebody from at least 1000 miles away? (I mentioned it in a previous post)

Here's a picture of the guy:
John Gerard | NBC Miami (http://www.nbcmiami.com/station/about-us/John-Gerard.html - broken link)

I'm still bummed that Jennifer's leaving; I would have loved it they would have made Siobhain Anders the chief meterologist but I knew that they would never have done that.

If this guy's first impression is bad, I'm gonna switch back to KSAT. He may have Steve Browne's hair but probably not his great personality.

Noticed this in his bio:

"currently a Lecturer at the University of Miami, where he teaches Broadcast Meteorology, a curriculum he designed himself to teach students how to make presentations user-friendly and easily understood."

I wonder if he'll do the same thing here? (No meteorological aspirations here, just curious...)

Pretty sure that was the guy I voted for when I did a survey about a new weather person a couple months ago.

He's leaving Miami which is the 16th largest television market in the US, for San Antonio which ranks as the 37th largest. I wonder how much money WOAI is paying Mr Gerard. He seems to have great credentials however which is always a plus.

Not just that,
but Miami salaries are much higher, too.

Well, maybe he got tired of running away from hurricanes

It may be a larger market, but that doesn't mean people WANT to live there. Have you lived in Miami? yikes! I'd say he's getting the better end of the bargain at any price.....except no beach.

HaHa...I HAVE lived in Miami...it was the longest year of my life! As a Broadcast Journalism major, my point was that the money usually has to be substantially higher to forego climbing the television market ladder and settle into a smaller market, IMO. Unless of course you're ready for a much nicer locale with a better standard of living as I think SA has compared to Miami...again, only my opinion.
