Oh here they go again. They want to ban plastic bags and make it a crime if I give change to a Homeless Person.
Several years ago didn't they pass an Ordinance if you were stopped and had no Auto Insurance your vehicle would be towed? What in the Hell happened to that? I can't tell you how many times in the past 2-3 years that some lazy slob ran into one of our three vehicles without any coverage.

Come On City Council get your priorities straight. Crap like this is why Joe Finger gives you a mouthful at your meetings.

Interesting thread and good discussion

I suppose it's best to keep in mind the saying 'everything old is new again' when it comes to what's en vogue, PC and trendy. The environment has ALWAYS been a trendy thing... And I say 'trendy' because most of the programs instituted to 'help' the earth are cost-prohibitive and still end up polluting.

Seeing all the plastic bags hanging from fences makes me a supporter of ban/tax plastic bags.

An easy market-based solution would be for HEB and other retailers start charging 3-5 cents per plastic bag the customer needs. There is no right to a free bag, it is just retailers have always done this as a courtesy. Once people figure out that buying the $0.99 reusable bags will pay for itself in X months there will be more switchover. And if you do need the plastic bags for wastecans around the house you can still have them for the cost of what HEB has to pay for them, or better yet with a slight mark up since they are in business to make money.

I welcome the ban. It does take some getting used to but IMO it’s very well worth it!

If you don't like 'em, don't use 'em - but don't take away the options of others to do so. It's called freedom of choice - and I can remember years ago when the "environmentalists" SCREAMED until they finally made plastic bags available because it was "better for the environment."

Different day, different "science"...

I don't remember that happening. Paper has always been known to be more degradable than plastic. Have any proof?
