Schertz Street signs (San Antonio, Center, Anton: neighborhood, high school, cost)

San Antonio could learn something from how large Schertz street signs. You can barely read the ones in San Antonio

I haven't driven the surface streets in the Schertz in quite some time, so I don't know exactly what their street signs look like, but I do know in the City of San Antonio, the new street signs installed in the last three or four years have larger characters for the street names, at the expense of the block numbers, which they shrank to accomplish this.

It will probably take years to phase-in the larger signs in a city the size of San Antonio. Most (not all) of the older signs in my neighborhood were replaced about seven or so years ago with ones that display block numbers, and many of those older signs were very badly deteriorated -some of those signs supposedly dated back to the 1960s!

The Medical Center has the best street signs, IMO. I wish they were like that all over town.

Those are nice so are the ones on Sonterra they are lit up at night and you can see them. Their is light in the actual sign not just shining on it.

There are a few other locations with those backlit street signs as well (two locations on Hausman Rd. outside 1604 come to mind). I believe that's going to be the new standard for signalized intersections.

Great to hear this will be the new standard. I always was jealous of California and Arizona (Phoenix, at least) for having these types of signs *everywhere*.

Another new intersection (with the lit-up street signs) to add is Jones-Maltsberger @ Arion Parkway.

CA was hard for me to drive around - they weren't too good about putting the block number on street signs. And it's not like some other parts of the world where roads are numbered (140th Way, 83rd St, ...) and you can easily figure out the address from there.

when my husband used to work for the city of schertz there was a rumor that the signs cost $150 a piece
