You may know my story, or not:

Sept 2008 Moved from Northern Virginia to San Antonio for a job relocation
August 2009 Married, brought the old lady down here
April 2010 Closed on our first house

Very exciting time, and I thank the affordable cost of living in San Antonio for making this happen. This house would be totally beyond my wife and I's reach in Northern Virginia where I was born and raised.

Thanks to all city-data'rs for all advice since I got on here.

Aww, happy ending! I'm in the process too, hope for it to be over in about a month. Sigh.
So can you post pics?, what's the house like?
I'm excited for you! - from one homebuyer to the next.

Congratulations! My husband and I just moved into our very own home on March 23 - we're in our 40s and it's the first home either of us has owned so we too are totally psyched!

skeet, hang in there. It seems endless but my gosh it's worth the wait! I literally dance around the house at least once a day.

Congratulations! We moved here from Richmond, Va, four years ago and bought our first home here in SA. We could never afford to buy one back in Va.

We watch those home shows, where folks are out shopping for houses. Mid-20's couples, happily shopping around 350-400k homes that wouldn't bring 150k in our market, and I've got to wonder how on earth they afford 'em. Then again, that likely explains the "crash" in the mortgage markets, as they found out that they couldn't afford them as easily as they thought. I realize income is typically higher - but they often give their income range, and I almost gag when I realize that the mortgage debt service is going to be 30-35% of their net monthly income, and that's with both of 'em working. Can't imagine what happens when the wife becomes pregnant.
