I have to admit I was a little surprised to see this article in our online newspaper today:
City hoping to lease old kennels at Brooks

Our City recently bulldozed the former ACS facility located on Tuleta Drive, which was also 'in need of repair', but belonged to the City and the investment in any remodel would have been to 'owned' property, not leased. I know this former facility represented a very dark time in our city with regard to the unwanted animals housed and killed there - but somehow it makes no sense to me to lease space, to temporarily hold animals....when we had that type of option available and we paid to have it torn down?

I know this could be a heated discussion as it is a very hot topic - but I'd be interested in the thoughts of my fellow SA residents....I am involved in dog rescue and I have issues with the thought of leasing space to hold animals in a 'non-public' site, just to transport them 3 days later to be euthanized at the public facility. How does this make sense? How do owners reclaim their pets at a 'non-public' facility? The current facility is covered up with procedural issues that continue to plague their reputation for proper animal care/housing...how on earth do they think they can properly manage TWO separate facilities FULL of animals??????

I hadn't seen this discussed yet - if it has - moderators please feel free to delete this.

Part of the latest round of BRAC is that the military will be pulling all of its operations out of Brooks. Maybe the site won't be non-public after that happens?
