Cat: The country club was located on Data Point Drive came into Wurzbach Dr. about a block from I-10. And I don't think I have that pic any more. I'll look though.

GY.....from my notes et al.....that specific area was once called "University Estates". I found a map that shows parts of a golf course that were remaining in 1974. I don't have any reference at hand that gives me the name of that Country Club. The fairways were back behind the buildings between Datapoint, Fairhaven, Bluffdale etc.

Try to access this birdseye between Medical, Fred Rd and Datapoint. There is a big building with a lot of parking lot. Behind it are some remains of about 6 full sized tennis courts, which make me think the Country Club might have been in that vicinity. Does any of that ring a bell? Maybe some of the area streets will give you a clue that will remind you of the name. It wasn't Colonial Hills CC was it? I left SA when they were developing all that area and don't remember any other CC other than Oak Hills out there.

Maybe you can see something that might be the remains of the Club house?
Or someone else might remember.

An old map from 1943:
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/topo/...rings-1943.jpg

Identifies this area as the Alamo Country Club.

I'm been following this story a while. I've heard mention of the Midget Mansion for some time now. I'm not extremely familiar with that area but did travel through it frequently years ago. Don't know if I recall the MM but there was an old bldg.(maybe house) in that area. Must have been Shavano Park. Might have been at Huebner and Lockhill- Selma if the two meet. This place sat well back from the road in one corner by itself. I believe there were RR tracks behind it. Seems like someone told me back then it had been an illegal casino or speakeasy. This Alto Diferente or something like that owned by Albert Friedrich & wife. Very interesting. Most people probably don't know some of this. Albert was I believe the brother of Ed Friedrich creator of Friedrich Refrigeration and Air conditioning here. Which are kin to the Rogers family which I believe have been long time owners and settlers of the Shavano Ranch area. Most likely the Rogers Ranch is there baby. The Rogers are again the owners of "The Buckhorn Hall of Horns". Which was originally owned by relative Albert Friedrich. Rogers and Friedrich all kin to Biedenharns. The Biedenharns were in on the very beginnings of the Coca Cola Empire. Pemberton a pharmacist in the N.E. created the coke formula and sold it from his fountain in the drug store . Deciding to expand his operation he found the Biedenharn Candy Company which had bottling equipment. They became the first bottlers of Coca Cola and to this day own most of south Texas franchise to bottle Coke. Including S.A.'s bottling facility.

Map of Wurzbach Rd & W Ih 10 San Antonio, TX by MapQuest

This shows Datapoint and Wurzbach. The country club was the big bldg and you can see the fairways going towards the South.

OH....that's where Turtle Creek was. There is a Turtle Creek in Dallas that I'm more familiar with and always got confused when anyone referred to Turtle Creek here.

Is the club house you are referring to in this aerial view? Lots of big buildings in that intersection. The may I have states "golf course fairways" by some of the new developments back between those streets I listed above. They were no longer in use, some being developed, but you can definitely see the "green belts" left over from the fairways through out that area. Neat!

That's the club house, tennis courts and swimming pool. Picture being in that place at 3 am when it was abandoned and there were rooms under a street with graffiti and drug para. around. Old clothes, mattresses. Upside down pentagrams, devil signs. Wicked, this way comes!

Seems to me that it has been Planeta-Mexico for a long time. At least since 1990.

SUPER MAP!!!! WOW! I'd love to see other sections of this!!!

Kmerian...I'm not certain, but the Country Club labeled as Alamo Country Club is the current Oak Hills Country Club...mainly because it's showing to be on the West side of Fredericksburg Rd.

Can you help me find the rest of this map? This topo is so informative!
