I've tried to do a little research on the Onions. There are living descendants still in SA. Some of the sources are hard to find because of typos spelling the last name. It may have been derived from another original spelling. If I have time, I'll try to post what I have found.

I saw Roundhill on that topo map, so it's interesting you brought it up. I was comparing it to the Virtual Earth Aerial map and it's amazing how accurate that topo map still is....only with a few more historical elements to it. Any interesting stories about Roundhill? I don't know much about that area.....but it's on my list!

I found a link on ClickItSA, but you have to be a member to view it and I can't figure out how to join!

M2.....when I get a chance, I'll see if I can sort out that family tree that's on their web site. It doesn't make sense they way they have it posted. They have Heubners on both sides of the family. I guess it's possible, but I think this is just a confusing chart. Standard genealogy trees in that format are less complicated.
Still haven't gotten to the Onion info. Will attempt that this week.

This one confused me. It is the original Heloise that died in 1977 (the mother). The Heloise that I remember is still alive.
Don't scare me like that!!

That explains why there are no dates on Heloise II's tombstone.

I live about 3 blks. from San Jose Burial Park, as the crow flies. Last time I was in it was when I was about 15 on my motorcycle. Guess I need to revisit it! Driven by it many times over the years. BtW, looks like the Stinson Terminal expansion is about complete. Glad they saved the old control tower . They let me go up in it when I was a kid.

Satx56.....if you turn South on Mission Rd off of SW Military, drive down to the intersection of March Drive and Mission Rd. To your right, you'll see one of the entrances to San Jose Memorial Park. Just inside the gates to the left, you'll see Heloise's blank headstone. Also right in that same vicinity is some of the Cude Family....related to Elton Cude.
Follow that drive around toward the left...don't make any hard or sharp turns. You'll come across a wooded section with a pond. On the North side of the pond is the Palfrey plot. I don't remember which Palfrey is there.
Just on the South side of that pond is the Centano (sp) family...the other home grown grocer in town. They used to have a huge tract of land to keep too many burials close to their plots, but eventually sold off a lot of their tracts. They have very colorful and exotic displays at their family plot during holidays etc to celebrate their family. At Christmas they used to even put up a tree with a generator and all to keep the lights on during the holidays. It's quite a sight! They have one of the most beautiful works of art for a family headstone. It's black granite with a almost full bronze figure of a woman resting on the marker. It's stunning and surprises you if you're not expecting it. It's very art deco.....very non funeral in a sense, but also very sad to look at in a way.
More on the Palfrey's in the Who's Who thread.
