I'm going to San Antonio the 14th-17th and staying at the Menger. Anyone have any stories about that? Also, we are going to check out the Southton Sanitorium. Would anyone like to hear about out experience there? Has anyone in this forum been there?

All just urban legends, of course. But...there are many hauntings in an around San Antonio.
The most haunted area is downtown near the Alamo, including the Alamo.

Default abandoned building off wurzbach san antonio

back in the early 70's my friends and I would check out a supposedly haunted building off wurzbach between bandera and Callaghan. I was trying to find out what the real story is of this childhood memory. I remember we would go down a long winding narrow road in a heavily wooded area. At the end of the road was a two or three story abandoned building that appeared to be a hotel but the rooms were really small. What made this building quite strange was that at the end of the building was what seemed to be a jail. The room had bars on the windows and the door was like a jail door with a heavy lock. There was a dilapidated swimming pool that was really deep. Someone once told me that it was supposed to be a retirement home for pilots but the owner either died or ran out of money before it was completed. They said the owner was either captain Saunders or colonel Saunders . . . So we referred to the building as 'Saunders castle'. We were also told that the legendary donkey lady roamed the wooded area. She would supposedly rise from the hood of your car as you were driving down the winding road. It was said that sometimes she could be seen in your rear view mirror sitting on your trunk. We never saw her (surprise, surprise) but walking thru the building was really scary.

does anybody know the real history of this abandoned building off wurzbach
? I had also heard it was an asylum of some kind. Because of the small rooms, I can't help wondering if this has any truth to it.

where is this location? Although this doesn't look familiar, at least as I remembered it back in 1970, your suggestion looks awful creepy nevertheless. I distinctly remember the pool and from the aerial view there doesn't appear to be evidence of one. Thank you for trying and providing a possibility . . . The curiosity is killing me. I'm on the verge of getting obsessed to know what it was before it was abandoned.

The location in Mee's first link is on the totally opposite end of town. SE side. It's been said to be or to have been many things. Back in the 60's it was called (not Boysville) if I recall correctly, but something similar. Obviously a facility for delinquent boys.
