I received a quote for 8-9 zones using Hunter systems for a lot that is smaller than .25 acres. The quote was for nearly $4000. Is this high for the area? I understand the bedrock makes the work harder, but double the price of a typical install.

Can anyone recommend some companies to request quotes from?

Have you checked with Choate Irrigation? They do both commercial and residential and use either Rainbird or Hunter systems.

I used Daily (sp?) - out on 281. They were the cheapest by far. I have about a quarter acre and have 7 zones - I think I paid 3400 for the whole thing. I am pretty sure they used rainbird everything.

4 grand isn't disproportionately high.

I've been getting quotes for roughly .2 acres. Equipment would be Hunter or Rainbird on a 6-7 zone system. Prices have been ranging from $2100 from a guy who does "side jobs", to $2500 from a licensed company (1 yr. warranty).

The company who is doing my landscaping right now is doing the sprinkler system portion for $3800 so that sounds about right. We live on 1.16 acres and the part we are landscaping is about .25 -.3

Bluebonnet landscaping is who I'm using. They work hard when they show up. That's what I hate about contractors - chasing them down.

i had a not so good experience with my contractor...
they didn't cover the ground well, very messy... and
they were supposed to include putting sprinkler as well to the sidewalk, and also a power outlet by the controller, they promised they will come back, but never did, i got tired of phone tagging with them... now i had to manually water the sidewalk, and have long extension cord for the power in the garage...

I had a quote from one company for 6 zones for $3500. I then called "The Sprinkler Guy" and he gave me 4 zones with 100% coverage for less than $2000 and he pulled all permits.

We used Choate, Rainbird system, 8 zones, .22 acres and it was $1800. They came in and did a "Saturday" job. Same guys, same product, jut done for $700 less than normal because it was on a Saturday. Let me tell you, it was like 20 workers and 3 huge Ditch Whiches (sp?) and about 4 hours. That rock bed is horrible! Oh and if you've had the cable/internet/phone lines marked it doesn't help. Those guys who come and mark are off by several feet and some lines aren't marked at all. I was planting on Memorial Day and cut my neighbors house off...during a Spurs game.

How do you ask for a "Saturday" job? Also, who was liable for the cable cut...You or Choate?
