Default Special Needs Child Care

Does anyone know about the Brighton School or know of any other child/day cares for special needs children? I'm looking for a daycare that specializes in caring for disabled children.

I have not heard about them but you might call University Methodist Church. I believe that have the largest special needs program in the area so someone there might be able to point you in the right direction. The also have a special needs high school there.

Default SPecial needs child care reply

Hi! My daughter just recently told me that she checked rererences. etc. for child care for her newborn-to-be on Texas Department of Family and Protective Servies @ DFPS - Texas Department of Family and Protective Services then on the left click Child Care Licensing. When that screen opens, you have options along the left, including background checks! Her husband is an attorney and works with this department. I hope this helps; I would certainly want to check backgrounds!

Your child may be too young for The Arc of San Antonio, but keep them in mind for the future. They provide after school, holiday, and all day summer day care for school aged children with developmental disabilities, at both their HQ on West Avenue and at University United Methodist. Their website is The Arc of San Antonio and telephone 210-490-4300. I believe the website provides links to other organizations in the city. Also Pam Stephens on the Arc's staff is very knowledgable about community-wide services and I'm sure she could give you some good leads. Her extension is x 120.

More on my previous. When you go to The Arc's website, on the right hand side of the opening page click on "Community Resources". It opens to an online compilation of the many organizations in S.A. that serve people with developmental disabilities. But don't hesitate to call Pam for her personal input.

FYI: Brighton Center is a great place. My child is special needs and has been going there since whe was 8 weeks old. I love how they care for each individual childs needs; whether it is down syndrome or autism or hearing loss as in my child. She is 16 months and is learning how to sign already. They are very caring and even provide therapist taylored to your childs needs. (in class or will visit at home as well). Check them out. They are great.

I've been looking at the Brighton center myself for my 10 month old son. We're on the waiting list as there are no open spots right now

britishbird - Brighton School is the best thing that ever happened to our family! If you get in,you will be very happy with their staff and services. You may want to check out De Paul Development Ctr off Somerset Rd. Brighton has offices there and they work very closely w/ De Paul. They have a fantastic facility, capable staff, and just an all around excellent program.

Best of luck ~
