Well it's official, the transplants from CA have a place in San Antonio where we can get actual Baja-style Mexican food. It's on Bitters, near the 281, just a few doors down from Hobby Lobby

As an aside, I didn't start this thread to reopen yea old Tex-Mex verses Baja Mex argument. As tantalizing as those "my Mexican food can beat up your Mexican food" bouts can be, I really just want to review the restaurant.

Open entering Los Robertos we immediately noticed the restaurant looks just like a taqueria you'd find in San Diego or any other SoCal city. The big white menu up on the board above the register, the cartoon-like images of little men in sombreros, and the horchata/jamaica machine, it was perfect.

All of our favorites are served there:
special #1 (1 crispy shr beef & 1 cheese enchilada)
tamales
carne asada fries
cabeza tacos (OK, not actually a favorite of mine, but it's there in case I want to be adventurous some day)

Onto the specifics, anything with beef is served with nicely spiced shredded beef, enchiladas have red sauce, and in case I need to reiterate...CARNE ASADA FRIES!!! The food was excellent, just like that from any Robertos, Albertos, Adalbertos, Roybertos, etc.

We were very happy that M95Roadster let us know about this discovery. The restaurant opened recently, so it's up to all of us to go forth and eat!

Cheers,
B.

Thanx for the heads up Brennan!!! Did they happen to have Baja style fish tacos as well? That would make it just far too much of a dream come true!!

I'm a recent CA transplant who ironically was from TX originally...so I am confused about why my allegiances lie. Nonetheless I have to say that my tastebuds were irrevocably changed while living in SoCal. I would love to meet some SoCal ex-pats...why not plan a meet and eat and we can all weigh in on the fish tacos ourselves???

By the way, The Cove down by SAC has fish tacos. Their menu has lots of health-mex, but not in a Baja Fresh way.

Yep! The Cove is a great place! Their fish tacos are great! (Still not quite Wahoo's or Rubio's style tho.)

And we absolutely need to plan another get together! I think Paka and hubby are still on their cruise, but should be back soon?????

When's good for everybody??????

I have friends (previous San Diegans also) who live in Dallas. We called them up on the way home from Los Robertos to try and talk them into moving down here. This was the closest we've come to convincing them!

Julez, we're gone for dinner 2 nights in a row. You just let us know and we'll be there. Or maybe we'll be there anyway, we've missed that food so much!

Thanks for the info.
Will have to try this place out.
Do you by chance have an address or phone number for the restaurant?

We went there today for lunch. You're right! It was great--just as you said--and we had good service, too. I love that a small place like this is open and doing well. They said they've been open for one month.
