So, maybe they should get a cattle prod and force people to jog so when they stop and take a breath....ZAP!!

Or, if they're slouching in their chairs....ZAP!!

Elbows on the Dinner table?....ZAP!!

Ah! You've seen Food Inc (documentary) huh?! It's a great view inside the food industry!

And then the poor kids who attend the summer rec program are given stale bologna sandwiches and peanut butter crackers. That's awesome.

Absolutely! My employer did the fruit/veggie thing for meeting (see first post in this thread) and we've seen a big improvement in everyone's energy level.
Perhaps folks feel its government intrusion because it is the city doing this but if it were a private company, the news would most likely stay within the company and not make the media unless it were a top company in S.A.

Good for her!

People can still bring their own unhealthy crap. She just isn't going to let the vending machines be an "enabler".

It's nice to see someone take an actual step toward fighting the fat problem in San Antonio. Maybe one of these days we can drop out of the top 10 fattest cities in America. Doubt it will happen, but one can hope!

It just doesn't affect the workers. What if I'm at a city facility and I want a regular Coke, Big Red or Dr. Pepper? Why should some transplanted government employee have the right to deny me that?

Yes but to me, smoking is different- it doesn't just affect the smoker, you've got 2nd hand smoke that is a liability.

I was very glad when we got a new HR Mgr. who convinced my (then) employer no more smoking in the building. My office was right outside of my boss's and he and the other boss would spend all day in there smoking up a storm. A closed door didn't help, neither did the little fan they would run. I hated to have to go in there and ask a question, get something signed, etc. I would smell like I came from the club when I got home.

I feel like a vending machine is a choice that usually does not affect anyone but the purchaser. Especially adults. But we decided to remove the vending machine (at my present place of employment) because clients would buy and litter and stain our lobby, not to mention the kids were too wired on all that sugar to participate in therapy.
