Default Is Terrell Heights a "good" neighborhood?

Hi there!

My husband was just relocated to the San Antonio area for work and we have been looking at several neighborhoods. We just spent the day viewing houses in the Stone Oak Area, Alamo Heights, & Terrell Heights. We fell in love with Alamo Heights, but it seems impossible to find a house for $300K or less in that area.

Terrell Heights seems to be more reasonable and has some of the traits we like (older homes, mature trees, etc.) but while many of the houses seem nice, we also noticed that there were many people that did not really keep up their front yards or houses. It still felt like a safe neighborhood, but I am wondering how real locals feel about the area...

Is it safe? Are their young families there (we have a 3 year old)? Is it more of an up and coming neighborhood? Are there any other good neighborhoods similar to Alamo Heights?

Thanks so much for any feedback!!

Yes! Very good with an easy access to everything ( in contrary to Stone Oaks ) and great schools.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually looked online at Monte Vista...love the homes, but am concerned with the school district (since our little one will start kindergarten soon)

Terrell Heights ain't Terrell Hills, Alamo Heights or Monte Vista. If you can afford Monte Vista, which is within the San Antonio ISD boundaries, and if schools are an issue, then pay tuition to Alamo Heights ISD or go private.

Just be aware that Alamo Heights only accepts a limited number of tuition-paying students from outside the district. If you want your children to attend Alamo Heights schools but you reside outside the district, there is no guarantee that they will have openings for you.

Terrell Heights is a great area with a very active homeowners association. The neigbhorhood is fairly well grouped into elderly & young families/singles.

But if your child excels in any given sport, i.e. football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, etc........
