It wasn't mentioned, but IIRC Conn's closed down during that time, too.

Actually, Conn's is still around.

However, IMO, Conn's isn't really a direct competitor to BB, CC, Comp USA, and Fry's. Electronics seems like more of a sideline at Conn's, and the selection isn't all that great. I think they put more emphasis on appliances. They also sell furniture, bedding, and lawn & garden equipment. Conn's stores are mostly in TX (including Austin, Dallas, and Houston, all of which have Fry's), and a few locations in LA & OK.

Default I hate to bump up an old thread, but...

A few weeks ago, I had a lot of trouble finding a car charger for my cell phone that was under $30 in SA (I didn't look in too many places, though.) I looked up frys.com and saw one for $15. I had to be out of town before it could be delivered, so I figured I'd visit a friend in Houston and look at a Fry's store there (I could have gone to Austin, but had just visited). Wow--they blow Best Buy out of the water for selection. The place was huge--you could spend a week there. I found a car charger for $7, and was on my way.

there is a fry's in austin. i too wish there were a frys here (especially given how sa is constantly boasting some of the best tech jobs, or some such) but we always stop by fry's in austin whenever we're up that way (the austin spec's is better too)
