Question Job transfer to Pomona, is Redlands to far away to move to??

Hello

I will be taking a job transfer from Portland, OR to Pomona, CA. I don't want to live in Pomona because of the high crime. What cities are nice, have low crime and are fairly affordable near Pomona? I've come up with Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, or Redlands. I think I'd like Redlands, but wonder what the commute is like to Pomona. About how long does it take to drive from Redlands to Pomona in the mornings? I'd be working either day or swing shift. Are the summers unbearbly hot in Redlands? What is the average utilities bill during the summer for a 1 bedroom apt?

Any advice is very appreciated Thanks!

Chino Hills is very close and they're are some homes that are affordable...Upland, Claremont, San Dimas, and Glendora. I lived in Chino for years and was very happy there at one time...Redlands is nice, but you will have a long drive. If Redlands appears to you, then check out Upland. I just love the mountain views of the Inland Empire and Upland is right at the base...

Try La Verne or San Dimas ... which is in LA County with Pomona.

I would opt for Rancho Cucamonga. Redlands would be too far a commute for me.

Diamond Bar is very close (next to Pomona) and nice. Check into that.

But that freeway interchange is the second worst in the world(after East LA). What should be a 10 minute drive turns into an all day affair

... which is why I bought here. It's like Diamond Bar living, but at a more reasonable price.

Easy way to tell if it's a property is in Phillips Ranch portion of the 91766 zip code ... the address number is under 100.

You're forgetting the Orange Crush.

The Diamond Bar Crunch is messy, but it's not always awful. I leave for work at around 6:30am ... I'm usually past both 57 interchanges by 6:45am.

I do the long distance commute from Yucaipa (which is next to Redlands) to LA, its REALLY far from LA, and for that matter, not close to Pomona, however I'm awaiting a transfer to San Bernardino county.

I'm sure w/what the other posters have said, you can find nice areas closer, depends on how much is in your budget. Claremont is next to Pomona and is a nice area, parts of Upland too. And like someone said, Rancho Cucamonga (although further out) has really developed.

One thing thats helped me is Metrolink, a little pricey, but worth the peace of mind, not having to drive all the time. Lots of people out here (San Bernardino, Redlands, Yucaipa, Beaumont etc) park there and take it to out towards LA, and Pomona's a stop.

But it honestly depends on the individual, lots of people hate driving (I do too, but I've learned to live w/it, its an investment for when I retire & other personal reasons), and do not subject themselves to long distance commute - don't blame them. As for others, they somehow manage to do it the long commute, ask me how and I can't explain it, we just do it.

Honestly, if you want to be closer, you should look into the areas everyone's mentioned, as decent referrals....

You don't need to drive the freeway from Diamond Bar. 5-25 minutes tops on the streets, depending on where you are in DB and where in Pomona you're headed to.
